Obama has a hissy when governors address NG cuts
Pinto Nag sends us a link to NBC News which gives South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley’s account of the one way conversation the governors had with President Obama in regards to National Guard cuts. According to Governor Haley, the mood was genial until the cits were mentioned and the President’s demeanor changed;
“It automatically went into an aggressive nature by him, implying that, ‘Many of you have asked for cuts, this is what you said you wanted. Don’t start coming and now complaining that these cuts are now affecting you because you said you wanted it, now you’re going to get it and have to live with it,'” Haley said of the exchange, apparently toward the end of the meeting.
“It really is a slap in the face to anyone who has served multiple times over the past decade and left their life to do this,” added Haley, whose husband is a reservist who recently returned from a stint abroad.
Yeah, “many of you” refers to the Tea Party members of the Governors, it’s like saying “you people”. And I’m pretty sure that conservative Republicans didn’t expect all of the cuts would happen to defense. While I’ll be the first to say that there areas of defense that can be cut, as I’ve always said, the waste and abuse isn’t what is getting the axe. It’s the easy stuff, the stuff that won’t affect the right kind of voters.

The Gov’nas didn’t get the message they are supposed to bow down & kiss the Emperor’s ring…
I often get accused that my motivations for criticizing Obama are due to his skin, to which I usually agree…it’s far too thin for him to be president.
The waste in government has mostly to do with an excessive number of sandcrabs. If those critters were cut back, that would be no loss.
This is for bodaprez; hey, shitface – yeah, you! I did not ask for cuts, you jackass. But then, I didn’t vote for you either because I thought then, and still do, that you’re a slacker, a dilettante, an incompetent, spoiled, lazy jerk who never did a day’s honest work in his life. You wasted my tax money down in Springfield for 11 years, sitting on your bony ass and doing nothing. Now you think it’s okay to screw people three ways to Sunday because you’re the HMFIC? And you think you can do whatever want with no consequences? That’s why we have elections, you shitass bastard.
“The idea that the guard is going to take this reduction because the rest of the active duty military is taking this — it really falls hard upon governors.” The only responses to “why” from the CSA’s office regarding cuts to the RC are based on fairness, despite the fact that they have widely acknowledged that the RC, when not mobilized, are significantly cheaper than the AC. No strategy, no doctrine, just that it’s fair for everyone to take a cut.
Frankly, I think Clinton (and Bush 41 to a lesser extent) were wrong in shifting a lot of the load onto the Reserves and Guard back in the 90’s. We’re seeing the results of it now–states are expected to give up their troops for longer and more deployments, and fewer are available in their local areas when needed by their respective governors.
Of course, when called on it, Obama becomes the petty tyrant yet again. Imagine that.
#4 Ex-PH2: your driveway big enough to accommodate all the black Suburbans that will soon arrive? Well said mamn!
EX, you’re not paranoid, they really are watching you. How dare you criticize Da Won? SJ is right, better make sure your driveway is shoveled wide enough so that the Secret Service, IRS, NSA and the rest of the alphabets can get out of their Suburbans.
From what I’ve heard, DoD is looking at making the cuts to NG Infantry units. Not the support units, but gutting the primary group that fought in that little shindig called the War on Terror.
What #4 says!!!! Applause!
