And In the “Even More Good PPACA News” Department . . . .
Best estimates are that about 5 million individuals have received health insurance cancellation notices so far due to the requirements of the law known as the Patently Puerile Abominably-Crafted Asininity Patient Protection and “Affordable” Care Act (PPACA). But to re-purpose an old song title, regarding insurance cancellations due to the PPACA it looks like “you ain’t seen nothing yet”.
It seems as if many firms got around new PPACA requirements by renewing their group coverage policies this year. That allowed them to take advantage of a one-year waiver granted many businesses on PPACA requirements for existing policies.
They won’t be able to do that again next year. Some estimates say that could mean between 10 and 20 times as many people could receive cancellation notices next year – starting in October. That’s 50 to 100 million more pending insurance cancellations next year.
Gee, what was that promise? “If you like your current plan, you can keep it” – or words to that effect? Gee thanks, Mr. President.
A second prediction regarding the PPACA also seems to be coming true. Although the current Administration keeps claiming that such reports are “anecdotal”, recent data indicates that 27 percent of franchise businesses and 12% of non-franchise businesses have replaced at least some full-time workers with part-time employees. See the end of the article at the second link above.
When nearly 1 out of 8 non-franchise businesses, and more than 1 out of 4 franchise businesses, report doing something, folks – that’s no longer something that can be validly termed “anecdotal”. Rather, it’s now a demonstrated fact.
The PPACA’s insurance requirements only apply to businesses with 50 or more full-time workers. Given the skyrocketing cost of medical insurance under the PPACA, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out why using part-time workers is suddenly so attractive to business.
All of this was eminently predictable. Well, it was to anyone with common sense who hadn’t “drunk the Kool-Aid”, anyway.

What he meant to say was, “if you like your plan and your doctor, you can keep your plan and doctor if you are not a single payer and you don’t recieve health insurance through an employer that I have not cut deals for … PERIOD.
You can however, pay the tax and have your uncle’s third cousin who is a non-license vetenarian in Kentucky provide surgical and non-surgical heath care services at your own expense.
This has been the worst conceived, worst thought out, worst executed program the government has EVER come up with. I don’t see the advantage to anyone when they can’t afford the coverage offered to them by the new system. I can’t see the advantage when small businesses are being decimated by this program. Thank you again Mr. President for showing us was a worthless, anti-American socialist you really are. Meanwhile we are cutting our military off at the knees, current and retired. Not sure about the status of the nukes in our silos and other BIG issues while the administration wants us in Syria and anywhere else they think they curry favor with our ENEMIES. Never experienced in my life the ineptitude of this administration from the POTUS all through the cabinet and associated departments. God help and Bless America…please.
This has been the worst conceived, worst thought out, worst executed program the government has EVER come up with.
Yep, and given the competition in this crowded field, that’s a significant accomplishment.
@3 Amen brother…amen.
One silver lining to that turd-colored cloud is that it now has demo-rats running around being “job-scared” like they’ve never been before, I love seeing them in a panic!!
“We are five days away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America.”
So said the community activist in 2008. His apologists dismissed the statement as candidate hyperbole and its meaning as innocous. It was neither. It was a declaration of his intent. Years from now, our progeny will say, “He told them what he wanted to do. Why did grandpa and grandma let him? And then they re-elected him?” I hope the answer is, “Because they were jackasses.”
In other news Harry Reid used the Nuclear Option to change the Senate rules on the Filibuster. He changed a rule that has been around since 1789. It is going to come back to bite him in the ass.
Meanwhile, boys and girls, Cameron is closing hospitals that offer emergency services that are less than a 30-mile radius from their surrounding neighborhoods in the UK.
Think it can’t happen here? If the cost of treating you with your obsobadcare plan doesn’t pay enough to keep a hospital staffe and operating, it will have to go out of business and close its doors. And tough bananas for you, toots.
Ain’t national health insurance just wonderful?
Hondo…
The word “anecdotal” means nothing to the left. As with AoS post and the “Crowds and Power” mentality- neither does this mean you can prove the facts!
They only want to ‘feel’ equal, and as long as they do, they will defend this POS to their graves. This person I quote is a lawyer in DC, and is shouting down Veterans because the taxpayers are “subsidizing” them! NFS? Really? They earned it. And the idea that she now gets subsidies, so eff the rest resonates over and over as she says our obsession with Fox makes us ignorant slobs because…(emphasis mine…)
“The law is fine. If you people would pull your heads out of the revolving Fox sound machine you’d understand that, and if you’d bother to educate yourself about the law you’d know it is and has been working for the past 3 years.***(the law was passed, but not enacted so to speak, but insurers could not deny individuals certain things to begin compliance- maternity, lifetime limits lifted***) The website is working pretty well, now, and I’ve been getting onto it with ease.(***My SIL has had zero success in nearly 8 weeks!) Maybe you guys should check it out for yourselves instead of making yourselves look like gullible patsies for the Party of No and its negativity machine. Naturally, there’s no viable proposal to replace the law by the GOP because it’s far easier to bitch and complain than it is to suggest anything productive.”(***I have been and it’s all a crock of BS. MY SIL does not even understand that she does not qualify for a subsidy. People think because they make no money it is automatic. Not.****)
It must very dark and stinky where her head resides to continue with such tripe and ignore every fact that has been presented to her over and over again.
@7-Reid wants to change that rule. He’s not getting the backing he’d hoped for, however.

I heard a story last night about Veterans dying while awaiting various medical diagnostic tests and some ultimately being diagnosed with latter stage cancers which would have been amenable to treatment if they hadn’t had to wait months and months to be tested. It was the military so who gives a shit, I know. Well, that is exactly what is coming to John and Jane Q Public under obamacare: Fewer doctors, fewer hospitals, and long waits for tests. Thank you, John Roberts, you bastard, and, of course, most of the fine men and women in Congress (spit!).
I cannot believe that every time an issue like this comes up the American voters, liberals by and large, forget that the government is not meant to “take care of you”. When they try things like this, the ACA fiasco happens, as an example. Private business in every form has always done a better job at running businesses then the government. Private business works on profit and loss, capitalism. The government works on loss and loss, socialism. The government can only take from the people and give it away to other people. But every time this happens and a “new” program is envisioned, everyone forgets the last f@ckup the government made in attempting to run a business. It started with Johnson’s “Great Society” (read that Great Socialism)and has only gotten worse over the decades. Meanwhile, we are not taking care of our national armed forces, current and retired. The POTUS wants to help our, out and out, enemies and kiss the Iranians asses. Social Security and Medicare are near bankrupt and the debt keeps piling up. I cannot wait for 2016. I don’t know who it will be but at least we will be shed of this inept fool of an America hater.
If we, as a people, fail to honor our obligation to our veterans, current and especially retired, we have lost it and are one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel, as a nation. The dishonor this represents as a nation is deplorable. Obama hates the military more than Clinton did and I thought he was pretty bad. I truly fear for America in the coming decade and beyond. Unless the right intervenes in a big way in 2014 and 2016 we will be utterly lost as a world dominance. We have given our jobs, money and technology to China. We are embracing our enemies while they tell us to our face they want us and Israel dead and gone. We are backpedaling on our allies. This president hates America. I have said it too often. But it is true in my mind.
Some companies have reduced hours to 29.5 so their part time employees are not working 30 hours….some of these companies have also made their former full time (and insured) workers 29.5 hour employees to avoid calculating for the penalty…
So now you get a two fold bite in the 4ss, your pay is reduced just over 25% and you lose your insurance, welcome to the Obama nation motherf@ckers….
@11, you have just described health care in Canada. The supposed model of modern medicine that our health care should aspire too. Long waits, no physicians, expensive drugs. No thank you.
Meanwhile, that paragon of intelligence, Sheila Jackson Lee said that the cancellation notices are “lies”. What the insurance companies were supposed to say was, “All they had to do is (say) that, ‘This is a notice to say that we’re going to improve your insurance, not, in essence, eliminate your insurance.’”
And, Barrycade had a meeting with his lefty pals in the media, to figure out how to polish this turd of a law, by “rebranding” it as something other than Obamacare, because Obamacare suddenly is bad.
Don’t blame me, I actually voted for Herman Cain 🙂
@ MGy…
The man responsible for coming up with the plan for Canada, now readily admits that care is rationed and that throwing money into it does nothing. Hence, Docs are now being allowed to open private practices for those who WANT to pay, not just the wealthy.
People seem to believe that having insurance guarantees access, quality and financial security. But it does none of those things and as we are seeing, it restricts our choices to include access and quality. There are no effing guarantees in life!
@15–and didja ever notice that if you are anywhere near the Canadian border in states like NH, VT, and NY, how many clinics and hospitals are sprouting up that are far larger than what the local community needs? And how many of those facilities have vehicles with Canadian license plates on them?
Who was it had his tonsils out in a Russian hospital?
Did you all know about the American pairs skater who had an accident in practice in Russia, had to go to a Russian hospital for treatment, and said the place was not only filthy, it was full of cockroaches? That wasn’t so very long ago – about 10 years, I think.
Welcome to the wonderful world of socialized medicine, boys and girls.
What Defend said isn’t just true in Canada. It’s also true in the UK. You can get anything you want in the way of treatment, but you have to wait for it to be available.
Are we going back to the Middle Ages, or what?
