Lou Reed passed away yesterday. He was 71.
A few details and a brief career retrospective are available here.
RIP, Lou. I guess you’re now taking the ultimate walk on the wild side.

Truly a giant in the rock world. Even if you’ve never heard of Lou reed, you’ve heard his influence. Acts like The Cars, Blondie, REM, Elvis Costello, and many, many others all show the stamp of Lou Reed and/or Velvet Underground. He will be missed.
Some of his music was hard to take – Metal Machine Music springs to mind – but it was always interesting.
My favorite albums from him were New Sensations (1984) and New York (1987.)
He was a very strange dude.
He’s “begginning to see the light!” Lou Reed = awesomeness! RIP.
Met him at dive bar (Mono’s aka No Name Bar) here few years ago. Cool enough, quiet, a bit out there … he was smoking a cig at the bar and no one had the balls to tell him to put it out! The younger folks without IPhone pushed up against faces had no idea who he was!
@1 – Coney Island Baby and White Light/White Heat. Saw VU in the late ’60s. Keep walkin’ on the ‘Dirty Boulevards’. Been a rough year – J.J. Cale and Lou Reed.
