On a ridiculously slow news day, the folks at NRA News send along the latest commentary from Colion Noir, Gun Control in a Vacuum; Colion Noir journeys into anti-gun hypothetical land, where everything works perfectly as planned.
Gun control supporters like to discount my arguments by saying, “No one’s trying to take the guns away. We just want to make it harder for criminals to get their hands on them.”
I’ve got news for you: No matter what the law says, criminals will still get their hands on guns. Realists like myself understand this, but anti-gunners tend to live in a place called hypothetical land.
People in hypothetical land dream up conclusions about what may or may not happen in reality based on a fabricated but possible set of circumstances. And where gun control is concerned, the hypotheticals are usually nowhere close to reality.

“Why do police have guns?”
“To protect themselves and others from harm.”
“And that’s why many citizens have guns, too.”
“Oh. Well the police arrest people!”
“Yes, and most if not all states permit a citizen to effect an arrest too.”
“But…but…Police deal with criminals.”
“Yes, they do, those would be the criminals who live among us and whose crimes are committed against us.”
“But…but…police are trained!”
“Yes, and that explains why no innocent people are shot by police, I suppose.”
“But…but…”
“Tell you what. Go home. Sit down. Take out a pen and paper. Then try to write down why it is you want only the government’s agent to have guns. I’ll check back with you in a week or so.”
Man, I love this guy. Preach it, Brother!
Slow news day? Obamaman just concluded a staged briefing at the WH regarding obamacare. You know that crackerjack army of gov’t IT experts that has spent gazillions putting together the gov’t website I refer to as the Edsel? Well, obamaman said that a team of experts from the private sector has been called in to help. If that’s not a scream. The irony is delicious. Now, if only the gov’t had wanted to produce a porn-surfing site, I just know that it would have been first class. Look at all those experts at the SEC alone!
