Gitmo alum dies fighting Assad’s government

| September 18, 2013

It seems that the Syrian Islamic Movement has posted on YouTube the funeral of Mohammed al Alami, a recent scholar of the Guantanamo Graduate Program after he was killed fighting against the Assad government in Syria, according to McClatchy;

U.S. Defense Department officials who help track released Guantanamo detainees had no comment Tuesday.

Aaron Zelin, editor of the jihadology blog from the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, said the posting from the Aug. 5 funeral confirmed reports of a former Guantanamo prisoner’s death in Syria that had been floating around the Internet for weeks.

“We finally have evidence with this video from a credible media outlet within the jihadi media sphere,” said Zelin, who had already seen it when a Miami Herald reporter contacted him Tuesday about the overnight posting.

“Obviously there’ve been cases of people (Guantanamo detainees) who’ve gone back to continue the fight,” he said. “It’s not surprising. But it is interesting.”

“Syria is probably the biggest jihad since the jihad in Afghanistan in the 1980s,” Zelin said, and for “foreigners seen as more of a clean jihad” than attacking U.S. troops and targets.

According to the article, al Alami was a Moroccan plucked up out of Afghanistan and accepted at Guantanamo graduate program in 2002 and graduated in 2006 along with ten others. Obviously, he didn’t learn anything while he was at the tropical school

So, Baracka has decided that these are the people we should send weapons to? Maybe he can cut out the middleman and just hand the guns to the detainees when he cuts them loose at Gitmo.

The turd ended up the way we wanted him to begin with. Too bad it cost 5 years of taxpayer money over the long-haul, though.

Yeah, “It is interesting” Yep, as Arte Johnson’s German-soldier character in “Laugh In” used to say, “Very, very interesting. But schtoopid!” The stupid part was, of course, the terrorist’s release.

@4. It gets better than merely wanting to arm our enemy–and terrorists are our enemy, at least as far as I understand the unintelligible foreign policy of Baracka. He wanted to punish Syria for allegedly using chem weapons against its own people. Problem? Sure, there are many problems with that but the one no one seems to be addressing is IF it was to be punishment for a deed done, why put a halt to a future promise from Syria to get rid of its chem weapons? Just another WTF moment from Baracka’s regime.
