Moving Wall & Open thread
Ex-PH2 sent us some photos from the “Moving Wall” that she visited today and says she’ll be back to see over the weekend and send us more pictures. If you want her to get photos of something specific, let her know in the comments. She can tell you the story of her meeting this Seabee;
But, I’ve been on the road today – went to Bethesda to pick up my meds and to get a real haircut – so I’m pretty beat. So consider this an open thread where you can drop off recipes, discuss whatever you want. Other bloggers can drop off links to the important stuff they wrote today, but I’m going to snooze with one eye on the goings-on here.
If you’re wondering why it seems so crowded in here, 16,000 people just discovered Phillip Mark Thompson today from somewhere out in Facebook land.

i had the day off and me and the wifey ate crab and lobster steamed buckets at Joe’s crab shack while looking at the USS LEXINGTON in Corpus Christi.
My older brother got a high number in 1970 when he became eligible for the lottery draft, so he lucked out. He is anti-military to this day. When I informed him in 1979 that I was enlisting in the Army right after graduating from HS, he looked at me basically with contempt. After I returned from Iraq in 2007, he spouted a bunch of anti-military/anti-war crap in my ears during our family reunion; I wanted to tell him to STFU and get the fuck out of my face, but I did not want to ruin the family dinner party, so I bit my tongue and kept it to myself. Family, what can you say…
The guy in the top photo was a real nice guy. His name is H.L. He was a SeaBee (Construction Battalion). He was in the Navy 27 years. He was over in Vietnam with the Marines and was flown wherever he was needed. I asked him how many times he rebuilt the bridges the VC blew up. He said they didn’t really ‘blow them up’, but ‘2 or 3 times’.
I said I had friends (TAH) who are constantly finding people who embellish their service (or non-service) and he nodded and said “I’m just a mechanic.” I said “Well, I’m just a photographer. What’s wrong with that? As long as you do your job and don’t screw up, or don’t get caught, why embroider it?” So I asked if I could get his picture, and he said ‘yes’.
He’s the real deal.
There were several school buses there, also, with high school-age kids who had come to see the Wall. The JROTC had people there as guides. It will probably liven up a lot on Saturday, when people have more time.
The Seabees from the local Navy base FREQUENTLY volunteer here at the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Gulfport, Mississippi (formerly called the United States Naval Home), assisting with mundane tasks that the elderly and/or infirm are unable to do.
Back when I first arrived at the Armed Forces Retirement Home, the Seabees quickly grabbed all of my bags and gear from my pickup truck and hauled everything up to my assigned room.
When I relocated from my former room on the Third Floor of Tower B to my present quarters on the Seventh Floor of Tower C (where I now have a FANTASTIC view!), the Seabee volunteers moved all of my belongings, lock, stock, and barrel.
For more detailed information about our local United States Navy Seabee volunteers, go to my personal web site, “OUR ETERNAL STRUGGLE” (just click on my name), and search for, “SEABEE REENLISTMENT CEREMONY”.
When is TSO going to do the reveal that has been mentioned?
And up in Michigan, Daniel Dembinski is still playing the “Dumb Polack” role. Both his website, and his Glass River Facebook page still have his phony claims up. I told him over the phone, and made a post, telling him that anyone anywhere can delete their posts on any Facebook page merely by clicking the upper right corner of the post and selecting “Delete”. Too damned dumb to see that we know what he is doing. 2 responses so far on my alerting flyfishing clubs, and TV n Newpaper sources. Both responses were from Fly fishing clubs who each said that they will have a notice in their next newsletter that he is “less than honest” in one case, and that he is a “Liar” in the other case. This is what he still has up at his “Glass River” facebook page: Hello I am Daniel Anthony Dembinski owner of Glass River Fly Rods. I would like to take this time to tell you why you should by your next rod or bamboo fly rod from me. I am a disabled veteran from desert storm, ex seal and proud of what I did for my Country. If it was not for Master Cheif Reyes who started me on fly tying as a way to calm down from missions and tranning. Later on I start building rods I even built my first I cought a Black Tip Shark on. I spent a lot of time tying flys in the hospital after surgery. I have done a lot sense then. I studyed BamBoo Fly Rod making From one of the builders in the U.S. and sense then I have honed my skils and art. I want and would like to take the time to build you a rod that you can pass on to your children and grandson and or daughter. I would like to build a present that you could give your Loved ones. I enjoy building pack rods, and love building that 2wt fly rod for the lucky brook trout or blue gill. I will be launching my web site… Read more »

Still lying after all his bogus apologies and claims he’d fix things “real soon”.
Considering that L.L. Bean will back up their products, as will Bass Pro Shops and Gander Mountain, and their prices are more reasonable, how can you trust this guy to be selling you a quality product? His sloppy command of basic English is so low that just for that reason alone, I wouldn’t buy anything from him.
Open thread, huh? Well, my pickup has a new addition to it. It’s called a hole. Went to the dump with a load of dumpables and one of the workers there got behind me on foot as I backed toward the big buket on his loader. I was angled and it went like this: “Back. Back. back. Crunch. Good.” what could I do? I cursed like a sailor and said, “You’re a stupid SOB but I’m stupider for trusting you rather than using my mirror!” I was still cussing as I pulled out of the dump. That’s all. Aaagggghhh.
And in other news, first time backing up the trailer into a campsite–AT NIGHT.
And I mean DARK, people. But it worked out. Nobody died, nothing got broken. Just eating dinner at 9 PM kinda sucks.
Fishing tomorrow. Gonna be a good weekend with the girlfriend.
Camping’s good. Haven’t been yet this year, but going in about 2 weeks. The wife and I are going to Gatlinburg, TN for our 1 year anniversary to go camping up in the Smokies. Gonna be a good time.
TSO’s reveal may be unfortunately delayed.
Daniel Dembinski of Glass River Fly Rods is apparently taking the Paul K. Wickre and Phillip Dale Monkress of All Points Logistics, route to internet fame by getting as many google hits as possible. If it is goooogle hits that he needs, we can sure help him out.

ExPH2: I hope that you are absorbing and enjoying the visit to the moving wall. I have visited the “Vietnam Wall South”, several times, during my trips to Pensacola VA. It is in a Veterans Memorial Park that is quite large, but so poorly attended that most times, I am the only visitor there. If you are ever in the Pensacola Florida area, this park is worth the visit. http://www.pensacolawallsouth.org/
I am, FO, I am.
Bama by 14.
Going to a retirement party for a lady that gave 25 years service as an Admin Assistant and mentor to a bunch of cadets over the years.
Great woman.
Hope they have lunch chow.
@ 15 – EX-Ph2 – Do you mean you are in that area a lot? If so next time let me know and I’ll meet you there. That’s where my daughter is going to school plus Frankie and Proud are close by. We can have a little get together.
No, I’m FAR to the north. That’s Florida.
I’m WAY up north of there. I’ve been to the Moving Wall a few miles north of me, Thursday and Friday. It leaves on Monday.
Valkyrie, here’s a link to the Vietnam Vets Memorial Fund for the Wall of Faces page: http://www.vvmf.org/Wall-of-Faces/21683/LARRY-T-HARRISON
You might want to go there and read the rememberances people have left.
Ex-PH2 – Thank you for that, I had not found it before. My cousin and her sister in law had posted on it along with a family friend that joined the service when he got old enough due to Larry.
Makes you wonder how many lives we impacted.
At least we won’t need a wall for syria. Too bad we can’t say the same for afganistan and iraq.
@21 What about the fucking wall we need to fill the God Damn hole in the fucking ground from where the Twin Towers use to stand!? How about you get your fucking head out of your ass and actually learn to give thanks to the country your so fucking busy protesting. You don’t like it? There’s the mother fucking door! Don’t let it hit ya, where the good Lord split ya!
Sorry about the harsh words, everyone else. I’m so sick and tired of people running their mouth while sitting on their asses and enjoying all the comforts won by the very people they are bitching about. If you really want to prove that you think America is such a fucking bully? Move to the God forsaking countries you think we wronged and protest America from there. That’ll show us that you’re serious, plus get you the fuck out of a country you seem to hate so much. Just don’t come begging to be let back in after the ones we’ve bullied and wronged so much murder your dumb ass.
P.S. Have a nice day, fucktard!
How about a wall to memorialize all the war protesters that also lead productive lives. Never mind, it’d be just an empty slab of stone.
@ 22 & 23; Right frigging on! lmao!
Just your typical idiot there – always taking a dump in someone else’s living room and demanding a round of applause for doing so.
@21: unlike your preferred societies (such as the former USSR, the PRC, and the DPRK) the US has no restrictions on emigration and expatriation. You can leave at any time.
Hell, if you provide proof you’ve done so and have renounced your US citizenship, I’ll kick in some $$$ to defray costs associated with your departure. Proof first, though.
Of course, I won’t hold my breath. Most leftist tools in the northern NJ/greater NYC metro area are all talk and no action, and can’t be bothered to back their convictions with concrete acts.
@21- Just make sure that’s a one-way ticket on a flight heading back to one of those places, trashmouth.
Since you weren’t even a bright idea in someone’s head DURING the Vietnam war, you have nothing to say worth paying attention to. Now SCAT! before I get the broom and the dustpan.
