McCain: Obama’s big lie

Feeling his oats, John McCain finally stood up today and called Obama’s lies lies. This video is about 9 minutes long but worth every minute (h/t Ace of Spades);

Adopting an aggressive tone on the eve of their second debate of the season, the Republican presidential candidate criticized Obama’s ties to Chicago, his legislative record and even his pair of best-selling memoirs.

McCain, speaking about the financial crisis, took offense at Obama’s accusation that McCain opposed regulation that would have prevented the credit crunch. “I guess he believes if a lie is big enough and repeated often enough it will be believed,” McCain said.

Well, we know what the response will be; Racist! The Obama campaign’s initial response was a mixture of fantasy and fairie tales;

Obama campaign spokesman Tommy Vietor said…that it was Obama who warned, in 2007, of the subprime mortgage crisis now blamed for the turmoil in the financial industry. Vietor said McCain has been consistent in calling for less regulation, “proving that he hasn’t learned any lessons from the last banking scandal he was involved in.”

Nice try, Vietor. First, the sub-prime mortgage problems turns out to be just a symptom of the larger problem. The main problem was allowing Fannie and Freddie to guarentee bad credit risks…something John McCain and President Bush have been warning for years would cause problems. Barack Obama would never be caught dead blaming handing credit out to bad risks, but blaming lenders slips from between his greasy lips with ease.

McCain also hinted at foreign donors to the Obama campaign;

McCain also raised the specter of illegal foreign donors to Obama’s campaign and special “earmark” spending requests for campaign fundraisers. “Why has Sen. Obama refused to disclose the names of people funding his campaign,” McCain said as the crowd booed.

CBS News claims that they found some more bogus Obama donors;

CBS News has learned that two donors to the Obama campaign that gave a total of $7,722 appear to have made their contributions under fake names that look like they were written by a mouse running across a keyboard: Dahsudhu Hdusahfd of Df, Hawaii with the following employer CZXVC/ZXVZXV and Uadhshgu Hduadh listed as living in Dhff, Florida listed their employer as DASADA/SAFASF.

CBS News did not find any records of these last names, towns or employers anywhere else. Newsweek reported two questionable Obama donors over the weekend named “Doodad Pro” and “Good Will”.

AP says that the RNC is filing a complaint against Obama’s campaign with the FEC;

The complaint asks the Federal Elections Commission to audit Obama’s campaign fund, RNC chief counsel Sean Cairncross said in a conference call with reporters.

Cairncross said little is known about many of Obama’s donors because the campaign is not required to disclose detailed information about people who give less than $200.

Of course, it’s all just racist.
