UN Peacekeepers ambushed in Darfur; 7 killed

| July 14, 2013

The Washington Times reports that 7 UN Peacekeepers were killed in an ambush in Sudan’s Darfur region yesterday;

The assault included sustained heavy fire from machine guns and possibly rocket-propelled grenades, targeting the force some 25 kilometers (15 miles) west of the town of Khor Abeche, U.N. forces spokesman Chris Cycmanick said. Reinforcements later arrived to rescue the wounded, which included two female police advisers, the force said in a statement.

But, don’t worry, the UN is on-the-job, writing their strongly worded protest;

“The mission condemns in the strongest possible terms those responsible for this heinous attack on our peacekeepers,” said Mohamed Ibn Chambas, a joint special representative of the force. “The perpetrators should be on notice that they will be pursued for this crime and gross violation of international humanitarian law.”

Well I feel lots better they used the strongest possible terms to condemn this attack. Nothing says we mean business like harsh, professional language. What a waste the UN, make that the USA supported and funded UN, has always been. Next thing you knows some muslim will be beating his shoe on the desk.

I understand that the assailants will read the protest letter, as soon as they learn to read. Perhaps next time the UN should threaten to hold its collective breath until the violence ends.

Bullets, bombs, and money are the only things that work. Words, spoken or written, as Nevile Chamberlain proved, not so much. And the money–well, that’s only a temporary fix. I guess that leaves us with violence as the only effective remedy. Who knew?

That condemnation sounds like something out of a bad Monty Python skit….

The Other Whitey

I think I remember something like this in a movie I saw a while back. I think the reply the UN got was, [North Korean accent] “Aww, you’re bushtin’ my barrs here, Hansh, you’re bushtin’ my barrs…” followed by, “Fuck you, Hansh Brix!!!”

The response they get here will probably be about the same, with a different accent.

Let’s hear it for the under-manned Darfur UN mission throwing UNPOL into combat missions and only backing them up with the dumb response Team America: World Police (hat tip #4 above) made fun of!

Strong letter to follow…

Nothing to see here. Move along.
