Joseph Gable Wood; pleads guilty to phony charity scam
Joseph Gable Wood pleaded guilty to fraud in a scam that was supposedly to raise money for veterans in Panama City Florida. In a link sent to us by Chip, the News Herald reports that Wood got five years for his trouble.
He began collecting money in February 2012 for an event called “Tour De Beach,” which he promoted as a fundraiser for the Wounded Warrior Project. State prosecutors accounted for $13,000 Wood received, but believe the total amount was closer to $20,000. On the “Tour De Beach” Facebook page, which is still active, Wood claimed to have collected about $37,000 from the event.
When sponsors tried asking Wood how much money was raised, they received no response. Sponsors then contacted the Wounded Warrior Project, and the group reported Wood made no donations. Wood told police in October that he’d been living off the donations, and had spent most of the money on social events and alcohol. He also admitted “Tour De Beach” was a scam from the beginning.
Nice. I hope Bubba gets back our money in anal rapes.

Five years in prison for a max net gain (if you believe his site’s claim) of $37k – and maybe only $20k? Shoot, that works out to less than $7,500 he got for each lost year of freedom, and maybe as little as $4,000 per year.
What a low-life dumbass.
Is there something in the water in Florida?
Twist: FL’s the 4th most populous state, with an estimate of over 19.3 million residents as of 1 July 2012. It will likely overtake NY for 3rd most populous state in the next couple of years, if not this year.
In that many people, you’re gonna find a fair number of j-holes.
I hope he gets his butt straightened out by Bubba, Thor, and his entire cell block!!
@2.
No shit, huh?
I would like to see the geographical breakdown and percentages with respect to poser and fraud.
Florida would have to be up there.
Ooooh, I am SO jealous!
How come I’m not smart enough to ever think up a scam that will con complete strangers into donating many thousands of dollars to ME?
I want to be rich as Croesus.
I want a bevy of adoring females to stalk me.
I want to be young again.
I want to re-enlist, go back overseas, have adventures, and see the World.
But, for now, I’d settle for getting many thousands of dollars from some sort of scam.
Oh, and I also still want the bevy of adoring females – – – or at least, one or two of them.
By the way, are any of the shops still accepting American dollars?
The problem is, of course, that not only did this guy steal money from donors and not get it to the people it was intended to help, but that his actions will hurt other charities and groups who are legitimate.
People will pause before pulling out their cash and wonder if the person, group or cause will actually aid people, or will it line pockets of someone else.
I realize that the number of years people get is based on the amounts of money, but somewhere there is a special portion of hell set aside for those who betray the trust of kind hearted people.
Too bad his five years can’t be preceded with a nice hard caning in a public square. Stealing from veterans, kids, the infirm, or any deserving group we Americans are so charitable towards should be a mandatory beating followed by prison….
Karma will undoubtedly catch up with this turd, I hope there’s a camera around when it happens.
Hopefully, now he’ll get to Tour de Prison!
