The difference a “don’t” makes
Based on a rush transcript from Fox News, the Associated Press wrote an article that was posted to the wires which claimed that Rand Paul said that American voters want a policy that “round people up … and send them back to Mexico”. Even though AP has removed the story and corrected the quote to read “They don’t want somebody who wants to round people up, put them in camps and send them back to Mexico,” the story remains on a number of “news” websites;
I’m no fan of Rand Paul (once a Kokesh hugger, always a Kokesh hugger), nonetheless, fair is fair, and this isn’t.

Whether or not he said it, it’s worth acknowledging that a lot of us would actually like the government to round up criminals and remove them from the country if they’re not here legally.
Gee, media bias? Who knew?
Seriously, they’re not even trying to hide it any more, not that they need to, because most of the low-information types won’t question it.
@1. “round people up … and send them back to Mexico” That’s outlandish! How stupid can someone be? You don’t send them back to Mexico unless they came from Mexico. Jeez.
Oh, one other thing. Could someone tell me what in the world is wrong with the misquote? Most Americans want them punted back to wherever they came from.
The misquote makes a world of difference. Rand Paul is considered to be the voice of one extreme (Charles Schumer being the other extreme). If he’s on record saying, via the strawman ‘nobody,’ that he won’t favor mass roundups and deportation, that is a very significant policy position.
To misquote him is not an editorial error, but to force Paul into supporting that position, or if he tries to correct it, then accuse Paul of flip-flopping on the issue in the face of opposition, which isn’t true.
They don’t call it the “Associated with Terrorists Press” for nothing.
Problem is kids, we have neither the political will nor the resources to simply round up 12-20 million people and return them to country of origin. I don’t like the fact they’re here or that they are overcrowding schools, prisons, roads, and using resources meant for those here legally.
The problem is two-pronged: the feds are responsible for securing the borders and sending back those who are caught. On both counts I think we can say they’ve failed miserably. But the states also have an obligation not to give out freebies, etc., hand over fist to those here illegally. Look at the difference in illegal immigration between states like MA (huge issue) and NH (almost nonexistent.) When you look at the bennies each gets in each state you’ll understand why.
