Report: Rendition continues
First let me be clear on my position; I like the idea of 6th century murdering swine getting the crap beat out of them without any women or children to hide behind. But this is presented as an illustration of the rank hypocrisy involved here;
This is from the Huffington Post, sent to us by ROS about a group who condemns the Bush & Obama Administrations for their practice of kidnapping terrorists and sending them to other countries to have the snot kicked out of them. here’s how the article starts;
You have to read a little further to get to the part where the Obama Administration is continuing the practice;
When he came into office, President Barack Obama pledged to end the U.S. government’s use of torture and issued an executive order closing the CIA’s secret prisons around the world.
But Obama did not fully end the practice of rendition, which permits the U.S. to circumvent any due process obligations for terrorism suspects. Instead, the administration said it was relying on the less certain “diplomatic assurances” of host countries that they would not torture suspects sent to them for pretrial detention.
This decision, the OSF report concludes, was tantamount to continuing the program, since in the absence of any public accounting, it was impossible to measure the accuracy of those “assurances.”
Like I said initially, I really don’t give shit what happens to these animals, but the people who voted for Obama in 2008 got a guy who hasn’t done anything that they voted for, and they’re not finding out until after they voted for him again. Do I think they would have voted differently? No, please, I’m not that stupid. They’re as much a bunch of hypocrites as the people for whom they voted.
So let’s recap; He promised to close Guantanamo, and didn’t, promised to end torture, and didn’t, extended the PATRIOT Act, extended warrantless wiretaps, half-assed surged troops to the war he said was the real war against terror, expanded the drone war – all in contradiction to what he said he’d do once he was selected. All things that he (and the Huffington Post and the rest of the MoveOn/IVAW/Code Pink crowd condemned) complained about the Bush Administration. All things that he said his opponents would continue and things he vowed to stop.
And the Huffington Post still runs a picture of Bush in the lead-in to the article.
Again, I have no problem with pounding the snot out of these creatures no matter where it happens, my problem is with hypocrisy, personality cults and blind faith.

I thought it was Clinton that was famous for that? Not that I am real big on blaming past presidents for current policies…
The left conveniently forgets that the practice predates Bush (43). There were a couple of isolated cases under Reagan (the Achille Lauro hijackers and Fawaz Yunis, who was enticed into international waters and then apprehended by US LEOs). But it was the Clinton administration that established the ongoing program. Bush (41) may have initiated the program just before leaving office in Jan 1993. However, the Clinton administration greatly expanded and formalized it; by 1995 it was well in place as a formally authorized and standing practice.

The Clinton administration sent quite a number of folks to enjoy the “tender mercies” of the Egyptian Mukhabarat under this program.
Truth is most leftists don’t really believe in anything but making themselves feel better. It explains why paternalism dominates their ranks and why so few are reluctant to question anything the first mixed President’s administration does.
Wasn’t it Descartes who said something on the order of “if the Devil ever DID ultimately win, he would have to assume the attributes of God” or some such? It’s real easy for the outside to point fingers and say “I wouldn’t do that”, but often it’s a whole lot murkier when you’re on the inside and can see WHY things are done the way they are.
SSHHHH … when they catch the bad guys … ah … and nobody knows … ah … they send them to what I refer to as “Jihad Club Med” for some what I call “rest and relaxation” (sleep depravation and positional affixiation spa).
For all who are scoring at home … we don’t need to know about it, I hope the practice is still in full force, our leaders need to exploit such tools, and we the people will benefit from the spoils.
Fuck it. Maybe they’ll give Obama another Nobel Peace Prize for it.
That’s a big list in your recap.
Related to that is: when was the last huge anti-war protest? I don’t recall seeing any featured on the nightly news since, oh, Bush was in office.
Well, I can guarantee you one thing, Spade–had Romney won the election they would have started up about 12:01 on 1/20/13.
I’m with Master Chief!
lol sparky.
Fuggin’ savages only know and understand brutality, so they get it back in spades? So?
I mean, c’mon! These people blame the rest of the world for their problems, while not contributing ANYTHING to humanity in the past 1200 years. They have honor killings, suicide bombers, women and children get acid thrown in their faces, and IED manufacturers crawling out of the woodwork.
Got a bug problem? Eradicate it.
So…What’s the discussion about again?
@Spade: The last anti-war protest? It was last summer (2012). Where were you? In a monastery, isolated from world events?
#7 Yep. When was it? Oh wait. We now have a black President for a second term…oops! Did I say that out loud?
#12 Of course there were anti-war protests…But no media coverage. Shhh!! And they were mostly overseas at that.
But hey, you had Occupiers filling in to shill for Obama.
