Fraud arrested for faking sons’ military deaths
TSO sends a link to the story out of Post Charlotte, FL about Shirley Ann Duncan who was scamming the locals by claiming that she lost her four sons in the global war against terror;

According to CCSO, detectives learned Duncan took pictures of her son in uniform from his Facebook page and presented it to the church to perpetrate the fraud.
She also told church members in September that her three sons were killed in action and the fourth son was not expected to live — and later that he died on October 23rd.
She also provided documentation of at least one of the deaths in the form of a phony letter from the Secretary of War signed by a General who was found to have been deceased for over 50 years.
“I received a phone call from Nick and we had a conversation and he confirmed saying yes, I am alive,” said April Hellinger, Community Life Center.
Way to go, Mom.

According to Author John R. Satterfield, one January morning a fellow whose sons were in service arose and prepared to go to work. Before he left his house, a car arrived carrying three men. They got out and walked to the fellow’s door. All were in uniform. Said one to the man, “I have some news for you about your boys.” “Which one?” asked the man. “I’m sorry,” came the reply. “All five.”
The date was January 12, 1943. The man was Mr. Thomas Sullivan. I cannot help but wonder if Shirley Duncan has ever heard of the Sullivan Brothers. It hurts to even think about what she did.

I can’t see the video either, but it sure is slowing things down on the old machine here. I totally ‘get’ the Army(?) son’s perspective, though. The military is an outstanding way to get out of a bad family situation. My crazy mother sure played no small part in my decision to join up. There was a command misunderstanding about the whole failure to write/call/visit thing once–ah, memories.

@#3, 2/17, I remember reading about that in a WWII history book. If I’m correct, the USS Sullivan was named in their honor, and that led to sibling males not being allowed in theater simultaneously.

As a brother who did lose a family member to war, a story like this pisses me off to know end. It is almost as bad as some people in my state who committed identity fraud by using the information of service members killed in the current era conflicts to attain credit and what not. I hope this women gets a significant penalty for this crap.

Gaunky died at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Landstuhl, Germany, of injuries sustained in Bayji, Iraq, on November 17, 2005 when a local national crossed the median and struck his HMMWV during convoy operations. He was assigned to the 3rd Special Troops Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Died on November 18, 2005.
So I did a little more and found a great story about a true American family.

Wow, if the US military only knew that the first three sons had died in combat, they would have sent a Ranger unit to save her 4th son at all cost…they maybe they could have made a movie about him…calling it “Saving Private your mom is a crack whore”
