Hollywood demands action on gun violence
First of all, I’m not so shallow and intellectually vacant that my opinion turns on what Hollywood tells me. Secondly, how many of these people have armed security around them when they go out in public? Thirdly, how many of them have spent money that they made from movies which somehow profited from the gun violence culture? Fourth, how many of these vacuous script readers did this because they felt they had to “do something now”, regardless of how ineffectual it would end up? Fifth, if it’s “too late” then why didn’t they do this before now instead of bringing out this video after the election?
Sixth, what exactly do they think we should do about it?
Category: None
Sooooooo, will they stop making movies that emphasize firearms violence?
Here’s my plan assholes: do away with victim defenselessness zones (what you would call “gun free zones”) and allow responsible citizens to be able to defend themselves. Oh, and my plan is for you clueless, entitled posers to make a rational argument for why that is not acceptable and what you would do as an alternative and not just a baseless appeal to “do something”, which is all you’ve offered here.
Yeah, I always enjoy the security detail that accompanies so many of these clowns. Again, if they were honest, they would say, “I am important. My life is important. To preserve it, I have people around me who will shoot you if you try to harm me. You are unimportant and should not be allowed to own a gun. Thank you.”
I demand Hollywood stop making shitty movies and STFU.
When I have the time, I just might research Oscar history to learn exactly how many Hollywood movies were nominated for an Adademy Award that did and did not have at least one scene with violence, a killing, or a gun. Then, it might be worth looking at the specific movies made by the Hollywood just-say-no-to-guns-and-violence crowd that did or did not include at least one of those. Like I can’t guess the result correctly.
Adademy? Well, that and an Academy award too!
I’m not even going to watch this nonsense.
@7. No, I didn’t watch either. Why bother? We know what they’re going to say.
I find it funny that comments are disabled on the video. Stars want to monopolize their one-sided conversation…
Having had a few minutes to mull it over I’d like to make the following amendments to my plan:
1) install dozens of security cameras in the classrooms and hallways of public schools and establish a secure feed between those cameras and a local police database where the cops can access those cameras and see what they are up against when they have to enter schools. This way they have some idea who the shooter is and who the good guys are. I recently went to an AT with a unit preparing to go to Afghanistan and they did a live-fire shoothouse-more as a hooah thing to do than to prepare for their actual mission. The place had dozens of cameras and you could see every angle of what was going on-this strikes me as a valuable resource in promoting school safety.
2) Make the schools’ PA system and police radio have some degree of interoperability such that when police arrive on scene they can announce their presence which would remind anyone in the school who was defending themselves to be on the look out for good guys and to be careful with their target selection.
3) Set aside one day during the school year (workdays), or during break times, for police to visit and conduct security drills and discuss procedures with faculty and staff and one day for them to come and talk about the issue with students (I don’t think students conducting drills with the police would be particularly effective, but I think the adults would get a lot out of it).
4) Set up police firearms training for any faculty and staff members who might be inclined to carry to protect themselves and others. Let the cops (or local guard unit or whoever might be available to provide good training like retired troops) train them about target selection, double tapping and muzzle discipline.
@8 the same thing any idiot says during or after a crisis. “Somebody do something!”
It disgusts me that these people can slap a support our troops ribbon on one side of their car and drive to the studio to make this trash. There was a point in the not too distant past where the vast majority of the country wanted me carrying an “assault” weapon. It was a mandatory part of all our lives for many years. Many of us have been on commercial airplanes with the weapons they’re railing against. Hypocrites, arrogant, self-righteous scum. Hollywood/neverland, I hope your castles built of money and complacency tumble down around you. The only thing more depressing than their ridiculous, shallow, and uninformed opinions is the fact that they matter to some people.
@11. That last line of yours is the kicker. We are awash in numbskulls and sheeple who cannot think for themselves. That’s nothing new. We just have more of it today than we did yesteryear, it seems.
The only thing I will ask these *stars* is: How willing are you to cancel your personal security contracts with companies such as Gavin DeBecker & Associates that provide armed security for you and your families (and have to put up with stupid crap from the clientele). Then watch their eyeballs roll up in the sockets because they do know how long it takes LAPD or any agency (especially if their out in the sticks on vacation) a bit of time to respond to their calls for help.
Haha sheeple. Someone is a Savage fan.
@ 68W58- I bet you grew up during the Civil Defense drill days of yesteryear too, lol. Excellent idea except, drills once a year do nothing really. Drill police and teachers and students at least two times a year and it might do the trick. How many times during the Cold War and school years did we have civil defense drills? Good one, LZ. Right.On.Target.
@14. Sorry, I am not. I listen to Mark Levin a couple of evenings per week and that’s about it. Sheeple, as a term to describe blind dolts who meekly follow, has probably been around since Adam and Eve and the first sheep.
Streetsweeper-thanks for the reply. I was just spit-balling, but if schools and police think that teachers and staff would benefit from more training then that could certainly be an aspect of any plan adopted. I’m not a fan of including the students (at least when they are young-elementary school) because I think that they will look to adults in a crisis and if the adults are well trained the kids will be taken care of, I don’t think that kids need any more monsters to fear (even though monsters, in this case, are real), but adults know how to evaluate and assess the risk.
F**k these clowns.
And jeezus, Beyonce? WTF is she doing on this garbage? I swear her mug is bloody everywhere, if she isn’t shamelessly slobbing Obama’s knob to the public, she’s throwing her nose into every “cause” out there.
A Plan To End Celebrities 2013!
Will Ferrell’s mustache is the best part of that video.
I like movies with gun violence, the classic good vs evil, good prevails. Yet I’ve never shot anyone, go figure.
Utah schools have allowed concealed carry since 2001 and it’s been quite successful. One instructor said that every school has at least one staff member who carries. Israel has allowed teachers to be armed since 1974, also successfully with only one incident and in that case, an armed teacher stopped the shooter.
Why don’t other schools emulate their success instead of this attitude:
“Schools shouldn’t be about guns,” said the 38-year-old. “It should be a safe place to learn, free from weapons and the like. I understand wanting to protect our children, but I don’t know if that’s the right solution. It’s a scary solution.”
Shooters aren’t the real enemy. The guns are. This isn’t very tough to follow. When most handguns would be okay to keep but and Ar-15 wouldn’t, you know there’s something terribly amiss since rifles are used in a tiny fraction of murders annually and handguns, nearly all. THEY WANT THE GUNS AND ALL OF THEM. They just need to start with some. Later, others, and so on. That’s the way it works.
Jamie Foxx, lol, this the same guy that is starring in the soon to be released Tarantino flick “Django Unchained” which is supposed to be exceedingly bloody and violent.
Pure comedy, these hypocrites.
Of course, war movies are out. They justify killing. So, too, cowboy movies, cops and robbers movies, Holloween fright movies, sci-fi (especially Star Wars) too, any Cagney or Bogart movie (or, for that matter, Cagney and Lacey, murder mysteries, the Godfather and other mobster movies, the Three Stooges (a saw across the scalp?, and any cartoon (especially Popeye!) made before 1985 or so. What’s left? Barney the Purple Dinosaur and maybe a few comedies–but only if there are no politically incorrect jokes in them.
Okay, so I can’t spell Halloween. Shoot me.
@21 – Some schools in TX have the “Guardian Program”, where certain teachers who volunteer to carry on campus get a CCW, a little extra training, and an annual stipen to offset expenses they incur. It seems only the superindendent of schools know who the teachers are, and while they’re embedded in the classrooms, no one knows who’s packing.
@26. They’re the guys who wear a coat or sweater when it’s 110 degrees.
The girl is hot…
Just saying.
Dear Hollywierd Ignorant Dolts,
We, the public who shell out our hard earned dollars that eventually become your uber-high salaries, look on you as ENTERTAINERS, not political pundits. Hell, we can barely tolerate the political class right now. So, do us all a favor, (and to borrow a book title), SIT DOWN, SHUT UP, AND SING. Or to put it in the more crude vernacular, STFD & STFU.
Are you sure this isn’t from the Onion?
I saw this post this morning. As I’m sitting in bed, I just saw a trailer for the new Hansel & Gretel movie. Jeremy Renner(Hurt Locker), is in this anti-gun promo, and he plays Hansel in the new movie. If you haven’t seen the trailer, you have to look it up. How can a guy be an an anti-gun video, and promote a movie in which they arm children’s fairy tale characters?
I tried not to watch this for the last couple days so this video wouldn’t sour my opinion on actors I like that could be in this. Well, there were more actors I liked in there than i thought there would be. Damn.
Here is a video that was linked on Drudge Report. I think the word we are searching is irony.
That’s the best celebrity-related call to action yet.
