Karzai wants troops out of villages
The Associated Press reports that Hamid Karzai, president of Afghanistan, has decided that he wants input on small unit operations in Afghanistan. He wants US troops out of villages there;
“From our vision, the fight against terrorism is not in Afghanistan,” he said. “That is why we do not want military operations in our villages, in our houses.”
Karzai discounted fears that Afghanistan would descend into a civil war of ethnic factions after the foreign combat troops complete their withdrawal. He said he was confident that Afghan soldiers and police can handle security.
“I’m completely sure that the withdrawal of international forces in 2014 will give us more opportunity to provide more security,” Karzai said. “We are the owners of this country. We should really show that we are the owners of this country.”
I guess he figures that we let Joe Bite Me develop strategy for Afghanistan, so Karzai can’t do any worse. Of course, this is nothing more than Zarzai saying that he wants us to continue funding the war without actually fighting it. So we should just pour bags of money into Afghanistan (ie. Karzai’s 401K).

In this case I actually agree with him. I would start pulling troops tomorrow, but I would let him know that if (when) we have to come back for pest control next time we’ll be there for a war. Not a “hold your hand and teach you to play nice” conflict, but a “smash your Capitol to pebbles and incinerate your leader” war.
The catch to my proposal is the follow through. I just don’t see this country waging a war like that ever again.
“From our vision, the fight against terrorism is not in Afghanistan,” he said. “That is why we do not want military operations in our villages, in our houses.”
The fight against terrorism is not in Afganistan? Wait.
Okay, Im back. Just immersed my head in a bucket of ice water. I’ll try again.
The fight against terrorism is not in Afganistan? Wait. i have to go soak my head longer this time.
Past time to go. That part of the world is not worth our blood and treasure.
The last plane out of town should detonate a moab and destroy the airfield it took off from. There should be no usable runways left in the entire country. A B-2 mission should be flown over the whole country every week or so and if any runway repairs are found they should be undone with high explosives.
If the Afghans want to live in the 7th century, they should have to live in a 7th century infrastructure.
@1 – exactly. Bring every single soldier home NOW. Not 2014. Not leave thousands of special operators and trainers. If he wants us gone, then we need to be gone.
But if one hint escapes that they are hosting terrorism again, flatten the entire place from the air. No more American blood spilled.
Of course, we don’t have the political balls to do something like that.
Thats funny, not a single person below him seems to have this same sentiment. Not a single member of the Afghan armed forces, police services, or any other person actually in the line of fire has done anything other than hope that we will discount their retarded politician’s stance and beg us to help. I say we approve leaving but make sure that Mr Karzai is not allowed sanctuary to any outside country. Maybe he will change his tune.
