Barwan Indicted

| September 12, 2012

I just got off the phone with an Associated Press reporter looking for information on Kyle Barwan who we’ve written about here, here and here over the last two years in regards to his pretending to be alternately a First Lieutenant, a Captain and lately a Warrant Officer. His latest arrest in Paducah, KY resulted in an indictment yesterday according to the reporter. He scammed an entire neighborhood out of more than $4000 soliciting door-to-door.

I don’t have any links yet, but AP said that he was indicted for impersonating a Warrant Officer and for conducting a promotion ceremony. I guess those promotions come faster for phonies than for the rest of us. Ya hafta love a guy who owns a K-pot.

Here’s the local news report from his arrest in May that led to the indictment;

In most cases of “Stolen Valor” the suspect is trying to gain something by a fraud. Some are trying to get money, some are trying to get political jobs, gain employment etc…. or just look “cooler” than their sorry ass really is.
This guy wearing a uniform etc should at least get a kick in the balls.

Couldn’t happen to a nicer drinking bird . . . .

Oh, and the news article indicates he was also sporting a Green Beret while bilking the family he conned. Just freaking great.

Give him a Bible, a weapon but no ammo, dress him up in real military attire, and drop his butt anywhere in Egypt or Libya. See how quickly he admits to SV. “Please, please believe me. I am not an American soldier! I never was an American soldier! Please believe me” Then, a few sharp reports and thud.

@4 I say give him some rounds for sh1ts and grins…best case outcome he ventilates a couple of them before they put him down and the world is down a jackass and couple muslim j4goffs…no downside.

I can’t access the video stream at work, thanks NMCI. However, I completely agree with 2-17 AirCav…

From a personal note, I’m glad to see at least one more phony trying to pass off a a Warrant Officer. I, and my community of CWOs, were really starting to feel left out. I can’t wait to get home and watch the video. Hopefully this a$$hat makes next years tourney.

John, I keep hoping for a ‘break out” sort of WO/CWO phony. Someone who does such audacious crap that it would make him a front runner…

It breaks my heart the majority of big league phonies are wanna-be SOF guys and/or senior enlisted or field grade and above officers…. As a non-combat arms guy, I keep hoping to see a supporting MOS, WO/CWO faker be a front runner.

Oh well, I keep scouring the news and going to local events with my camera trying to find him/her. I know the turd is out there…he/she is just hiding right now.

BUT..I will find him.

It’s simple, really. Pass a law that makes impersonating a member of the armed forces of any rank for profit an offence that is subject to the UCMJ. See how some of these shitbirds would like to spend some time in the disciplinary barracks at FT. Leavenworth.

Snake Oil Salesman. Wow. Amazing, that he managed to get four grand out of the naive. Total bummer for the victims but again wow.

Impersonating a Warrant Officer reminds me of the scene in the Untouchables when Costner meets Connery. Connery asks Costner why he’s carrying a gun, and Costner replies he’s a Treasury agent. Connery accepts it without even asking for a badge or I.D.

“Who would claim to be that who was not?”

Meth and crack makes people do some seriously stupid shit…and do it again, and again, and again…

Looks like this dunking bird received the opportunity to legitimately wear a uniform… the McCracken County Jail uniform. I wouldn’t be surprised if Bubba made him live up to his dunking bird nickname; by repeatedly dunking Kyle Barwan’s head in the toilet.

Any moment now, we “could” be “seeing” photos of him proudly wearing orange while riding in his friend’s truck. 😀

With all due respect to any and all officers present, that this POS would impersonate a “Gunner” is below being a POS. In the Marine Corps, Gunners are few and far between because the knowledge and experience required to be appointed a Warrant Officer is rare. Gunner Dahlkamp, maintenance chief for 3rd Amtracs, was nothing short of a genius. He could finger out what was wrong with an “8V 53T Detroit diesel” engine with a screw driver or a 3X5 index card. This a-hole isn’t worth a single drop of sweat from Gunner Dahlkamp’s balls. Not only was he a great Marine but he was a good man. He was one of my mentors. He was willing to bet I would be a “Gunny” in 10 years. My former Mrs. had different ideas…

@ 12. Ummm, unless you swear an oath to be subject to the UCMJ or accompany the Armed Forces in the field, the UCMJ never applies. Subjecting oneself to the UCMJ is one of the things that makes service-members so special. Finally, allowing the military to try civilians for crimes is sort of kind of one of the reasons we had that little divorce from England in ’75.

I love this site. Mainly the stolen valor stuff. You guys and a cup of coffee start my day.

I agree completely about Cheewhoa’s not getting impersonated enough. I personally look up to my CWO2.
In your honor, I will paint my LCpl chevrons.

I like the idea proposed by AirCav and VOV: apply it to all impersonators, give them guns and ACUs, then drop them off in the midst of the action.

I seached TAH for Barwan but this is the latest thread on him that I found. Maybe I missed the update in which he pled guilty to impersonating an officer and got 16 months. I found him because I was googling “impersonating military officer” and the reason for the search was that we sometimes forget that Stolen Valor is one crime but there are others that some of these clowns are eligible for.
