Overblown idiocy

| August 23, 2012

Yeah, just a quick glance through the subsequent reports on William Alemar shows the media is taking it’s cue from the prosecutor who is apparently racing to cover her tracks on this;

Fox News loves a veteran with a gun story;

The Charleston Daily Mail quotes the prosecutor;

The Martinsburg Daily Journal quotes the prosecutor who says Alemar was “highly intoxicated”;

Yeah, that sounds likely. I know I always got “highly intoxicated” and then threw on a ruck and body armor and ran my ass off. If he was so dedicated to attending Ranger School that he was actually training for it, I doubt he was getting sloshed.

Even if he was drunk, how is that “terroristic”? Berkeley County Prosecuting Attorney Pamela Games-Neely says in the Journal article;

“First of all, it is the correct charge. We are aware of it and it is the correct charge under the circumstances. That is not to say that there are not other issues going on with this young man. We are coordinating that between multiple agencies at this point. He was highly intoxicated at the time in addition to this and that gives everybody great cause for concern, especially around children,” Games-Neely said.

Yeah, bring up “the children” – must be an election year. Since when is being around children with a toy gun a “great cause for concern”. Ditz. If the Martinsburg Police is going to start locking everyone up who gets near kids while they’re drunk, there won’t be anyone left in the State.

Commenters to The Journal are already blaming PTSD for his runs and reported state of intoxication. Idjits. Hollywood has made us all practicing mental health professionals, apparently.

And having empty “clips” isn’t a crime, no matter how many he had even in the bluer states. Especially empty “clips” for a toy gun. Never mind that the word is “magazines”, media dumbasses.

Some Guy

I knew guys that would ruck on the streets with their AR-15s. There was nothing illegal about it either, many of the guys in the unit were police.

This is ridiculous.

Just from my own personal experience I’d like to say the “highly intoxicated” comment could easily have come from the fact that he had been out the night before, having a good time and got up to pt that day and was sweating out enough alcohol to smell like a brewery. Standard practice for some Marines I was stationed with and even myself in younger days…The odor of alcohol, combined with his appearance, probably set off a “knee-jerk” reaction by the cop and then a political-boost hungry *&#* jumped on it and ran before the officer could even get a chance to give the guy a BAL test…Politics F’s up everything…hope he still makes it to Ranger school.

No one has asked this question, so I will:

Did he have any military/reservist ID with him?

I always carried mine, right next to my driver’s license. I got stopped more times than I care to count in the 1960s by the cops in Arlington because my car had out of state plates. As long as I had my ID with me, or was in uniform on my way to work, they let me go. I took it with me when I was competing at horse shows, too, because I had to prove my age in the age-related divisions (amateur-owner adults, 21 & over), and it was because the judges all thought I was a junior rider. Oh, to be that young again.

So, was Billy Alemar carrying his ID with him?

Have to say, makes me want to throw on my digies and a pack and go running just for old times sake. Was always a great body-building exercise and I could use it after being out for a while… 🙂

lucky

Anyone in the DC area up for a ruckmarch in solidarity with the Soldier the thread is based around?

Stu

Well according to this he was pretty lit at a .20 BAC.

I am sure I did PT back in the day (80’s in Germany) a few times like that too.

Read the article, they wanna give him 2-20 extra years if convicted on the “terrorism” for wearing his IBA.

The article says West Virginia’s limit for driver’s is 0.08. He wasn’t driving, he was running.

I want to see the actual BAC test, the real one, not something that’s been ‘handled’ by the prosecutor, who seems to be over-weeningly ambitious. Does that sound like Lady MacBeth to anyone?

Ex-PH2: I agree with you. I want to see real lab results, not a report from the prosecutor. I would also want to see an outside lab run it, given the lack of professionalism (and full-up politics) from the prosecutor.

[…] the police motivation for the charges filed and the penalties that they carry if he is convicted. This AIn’t Hell also did a write-up on this […]

with all the bullshit going on in the world, sounds like the cops were fucking bored, couldn’t they be doing something else. like busting people for having sex with animals, or their cousins? I mean it is west virginia!!!!!!!!!!!!

@61. Sex with animals is California, not West Virginia. Sex with a cousin is most everywhere–though California (more specifically, San Francisco) is #1 between cousins of the same gender. West (By God) Virginia was once the haven for sex between siblings, thanks to the Ohioians who crossed the border and, of course, the DC commuters but that seems to be on the wane.

No offense to the good people who are LEO, but you know what, it’s a them vs. us attitude, that being us the veteran’s/active and reserve duty troops. WE have to fend for ourselves in these situations. Cops all over (when I say cops I mean Fed’s/agents) are attacking our men in green and arresting and violating our freedom’s over alot of bullshit cases. They blow things up into some highly dangerous situation for nothing other than what I can see than them hating us and being intimidated by the fact that there are those out here who are better than them at being a real patriot & not to mention the politics behind it all. It’s arrests and charges like these against Soldiers like this man that is making it a more dangerous time to be a veteran. The government trains us to do what we do, but then we are home & they screw us over and try to use us as experiments/guinea pigs for test cases. I really just can’t stand this shit. What needs to be done one day (because it’s becoming increasingly volatile to be a veteran now and it’s only going to get worse) is that when cops abuse one of our guys for bullshit, detain/arrest them over nonsense then we need to have our military’s units (whatever unit that person is in or some unit capable of urban warfare) go to that department with a couple of platoons of Soldiers and force those cops to let our guys go. The Army & Marine Corp need to do more to help our guys out in these situations. We need more support other than just some Facebook pages. Enough is enough! Respect our troops or get the fuck out of here. To those cops who are good and honest, you are few & I feel sorry for y’all. All I can say is if cops keep stepping on our brother’s in green over & over then one day were going to force those same cops to eat their own crap & know what it’s like… Read more »

I have written an article about Billy’s case, please take the time to read it and share.

The Mullah Alemar case is updated. The link is below. The prosecutor is now willing to drop the terrorism charge to simple assault but Alemar’s atty says that ain’t gonna happen. Also, the prosecutor who calls Alemar a danger to the community has agreed to release Alemar on personal recognizance from the 50k cash-only bond she previously sought. Lastly, there was an impromptu rally at the courthouse yesterday and there is a petition drive now underway in support of him.
