VALOUR-IT Time again
Did you notice the VALOUR-IT button to your right? Yep, it’s that time of year to help Soldiers’ Angels to buy voice-controlled laptops for wounded warriors;
WHAT IS PROJECT VALOUR-IT?
Project Valour-IT, in memory of SFC William V. Ziegenfuss, helps provide voice-controlled/adaptive laptop computers and other technology to support Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines recovering from hand wounds and other severe injuries. Technology supplied includes:Voice-controlled Laptops – Operated by speaking into a microphone or using other adaptive technologies, they allow the wounded to maintain connections with the rest of the world during recovery.
Wii Video Game Systems – Whole-body game systems increase motivation and speed recovery when used under the guidance of physical therapists in therapy sessions (donated only to medical facilities).
Personal GPS – Handheld GPS devices build self-confidence and independence by compensating for short-term memory loss and organizational challenges related to severe TBI and severe PTSD.
The experience of Major Chuck Ziegenfuss, a partner in the project who suffered serious hand wounds while serving in Iraq, led to the creation of this program that has used voice-controlled laptops to the support recovery and reintegration of thousands of wounded troops since 2005.
“At that time I had no use of either hand. I know how humbling it is, how humiliating it feels. And I know how much better I felt, how amazingly more functional I felt, after Soldiers’ Angels provided me with a laptop and a loyal reader provided me with the software. I can’t wait to do the same, to give that feeling to another soldier at Walter Reed.” – Captain Chuck Ziegenfuss
HOW YOU CAN HELP!
This is our chance to give back to our wounded warriors – give them something that will help them heal and connect with family, friends, and their comrades back in the combat zones. You can help by donating and spreading the word about Valour-IT and Soldiers’ Angels.
So I’ll end this by saying thank you to all of you (small spheres of influence) who have helped these amazing American men and women.
If you can’t pick up a rifle, then please help our warriors.
Thank you!
SO click the link at the top of the right side bar. It was a fairly painless process. The Marines win every year, for some reason – there’s fewer of them. I guess it’s because Army guys are supporting all of those ex-wives.

Doesn’t the V.A. already provide special equipment to veterans in need? This seems redundant and looks like a scam.
Yeah, Andre, what does VA stand for? VETERANS’ AFFAIRS. They don’t provide equipment for soldiers still on active duty. This fundraiser has been an annual event, so why would we scam our readers every year. Please think before you type.
Whoa, suffice to say, a magnificent gesture, Jonn. Kudos.

Clearly you are new to Milblogs. VALOUR-IT is very real, very effective. Can you spare the price of a Venti, White Chocolate Mocha, with an extra shot? Five bucks, dude. Go to Soldiers Angels and read about it.
It seems to me that if Hewlett-Packard can blissfully ignore the embargo and sell their software, computers and peripherals to Syria and to Iran, they can certainly contribute to your worthy cause. Let’s find out whose side they’re on. (Their former CEO, Carly Fiorina, was a real piece of work, and she aspired to be a [U.S.] Senator?)
Glad you were able to get it up there. That being said… Go Team Navy!
I am going to cross post this.
Alright men I do not want to get into a pissing contest with you. This blog is used to out phony veterans and fraudulent claims. I thought this valour it thing seemed fishy. I have never served in the military so it surprises me that the government does not provide the rehabilitation tools needed by these soldiers.
It surprises a lot of people. Besides, the government can’t afford laptops for wounded troops AND cell phones for welfare queens.
Andre, you never had logic in school, did you? Okay, this is a site that delights in outing phonies and embellishment. Do you really think they would post something so eagerly to support a scam? You applied neither inductive or deductive logic, nor did you do the least amount of research.
Had you done so, you would have found that this excellent program was founded quite a few years ago by now Maj. Chuck Ziegenfuss after he was blown up by an IED while in sunny Iraq. Missing quite a few chunks, which resulted in almost every part of his body not covered in bandages being filled with tubes. An early (and good) milblogger, one of his readers made it possible for him to get Dragon Naturally Speaking software to go on the laptop provided to him by Soldiers’ Angels. Seeing how much benefit it was to him, he worked with SA to start this program, named in honor of his father.
The program has evolved, and today is done in partnership with DoD. SA does provide the laptops, because if DoD provided them, they would have to be returned when the troop left service per federal laws and regulations. This way, the troops can keep them. The program also does provide some other items to help those with TBI — look it up, the site is well worth the read. It can not only let you hear from those who have been helped, it would have answered your questions on why, plus more.
A couple of minutes of thought and research would have kept you from showing your ass and being thought a troll. Learn and grow.
LW
who was humbled and honored to have presented a few of the laptops…
Donated to team Navy earlier on today. Go Navy!
That being said, I wouldn’t mind Navy getting beat just this once to ensure that they meet their donation goal.
Clicked and contributed.
Andre, you oughta think about doing the same.
Andre, you’re mistaken if you think the only purpose of this blog is to “out” poseurs, fakers, and frauds. Take a look through the “Categories” links, and you’ll see that the posters here discuss a wide range of topics, mostly military or military-related.
You’ll be glad you did.
I agree with everyone. Andre, you should donate to make up for the mistake in etiquette here. Every little bit helps, especially when its not just people in the service (us 1%) who donate. If others do, it helps that much more…
Thanks for the link, this was easy to do, while I was in Afghanistan we had more than a couple guys from our FOB lose limbs to IEDs.
