New heights of ridiculous PC

| January 20, 2012

Tman sends us a link to an article out of Salt Lake City about a school who won’t let their students name their sports teams “Cougars” because it might offend middle-aged women who prey on younger men;

Still, the Canyons School Board refused to accept the Cougar as a mascot out of fear that it might offend older women. In the current edition of the Webster Dictionary, the second definition for cougar sights a slang terminology that refers to “a middle-aged woman seeking a romantic relationship with a younger man.”

To say that the board’s reaction to having a school play as the Cougars was a bit over the top is certainly an understatement, particularly when one considers the fact that BYU and a host of other high schools in Utah use the Cougar as their mascot.

Well, then the whole problem, as I see it, is Webster’s dictionary for defining the word as such. I’m pretty sure that there are younger female cougars, the animals, who are offended that they’re being lumped in older females of the human species. We shouldn’t be offending the animal world with our words. I’m sure they’d rather be compared to a winning football team than woman trolling bars for a cub to take home.

effen absurd. I wonder if the school board is made up of the “new” definition of “cougars”? Nah, probably just “cougar” wanna be’s. Definitely not made up of anyone with sense or balls.

Frankly Opinionated

Never question the limit on absurdity. With the libs at the wheel, anything is not only possible, but probable.
What a DUMB, STUPID Society we are building.

Doc Bailey

And now in our “liberated” society where it is effectively illegal to have testicles, did you really expect any less?

Poohbah, Lord High Everything Else

Not everything is about sex.

SLC has long ago been taken over by the douchenozzles who were too liberal for California. Think Boulder, Santa Fe, or Tucson for other examples.

I bet they weren’t really worried that somebody would be offended. I bet they were worried that the only people who voted for the cougar as the mascot were high school boys who were trying to practice a little subliminal messaging in their classmates’ hot moms.

Just Plain Bob

Same thing happened to my old high school mascot, the Butte Pirates.

Dumb and dumber…The concern for the mundane things just shows you where the focus is NOT. Homeschooling anyone?

NHSparky

Nah, there’s enough cougars roaming the halls of our public schools already, folks.

Nothing to see here. Move along.

usnretwife

The staff are probably Turkey Vultures who wish they were cougars. “Turkey Vulture”…. Means 20 years past a cougar, Still likes to hunt but too old to take down its prey.

faboutlaws

And just how old is the offended female principal?

I believe the worst part of this Charlie Foxtrot is that fact that the publication that prints this trash obviously does not have a copy editor. “….the second definition for cougar sights “? Really?????

I went to Kearns High School, the Kearns mentioned in the Article, and I just graduated from BYU. I didn’t have a single problem with being called a Cougar through the last seven years of my education. Like Poobah said, not everything is about sex, I didn’t know that “cougar” was a derisive term until I saw it come up on the Colbert Report last year.

The way this went down though, shows how asinine public education in Utah is. There was a majority vote for something, and something not even on the ballot got arbitrarily chosen by teachers and administrators. It’s not about the students in Utah, it’s about the teachers and administrators and fatter wallets. They are constantly grousing about wanting more money, yet Utah students are the consistently the highest performing kids in the country even with the lowest spent per student. The nutjob teachers unions want to run the state like a dictatorship and ignore what’s actually good for the students.

At my age, a Cougar is woman with a Senior Discount Platinum Edition, a walker, and grandchildren my age.
