Veterans Today urges Obama to stop “rush to war” with Iran

| January 11, 2012

I thought it was pretty ridiculous when the Democrats called Bush’s moves against Iraq as a “rush to war” over the agonizing months it took him to do it. But I didn’t know that a “rush to war” can take thirty years in the Veterans Today time zone;

You have the power to stop the madness, and we give you some recommendations on how to lessen the likelihood of a war that would be to the advantage of no one but the arms merchants.

If your advisers have persuaded you that hostilities with Iran would bring benefit to Israel, they are badly mistaken. In our view, war with Iran is just as likely in the longer term to bring the destruction of Israel, as well as vast areas of Iran — not even to mention the disastrous consequences for the world economy, of which you must be aware.

Yeah, I’m pretty sure that Iran has at been war with us since the first student broke through the gates of our embassy in Tehran in 1979. I’m also certain that it’s Iran who is rattling their saber in the Persian Gulf by threatening to close the Straits of Hormuz, not to mention the former Marine who was sentenced to death this week for visiting his grandmother. How about the mounting evidence that Iran was supporting, both militarily and monetarily our enemies in Iraq and Afghanistan? Or did we provoke all of that shit, too?

We neglected noticing that al Qaeda was entirely serious when they declared war on us. Are we going to make that mistake again simply by saying that we’re mistakenly rushing off to war without considering the consequences?

I’m pretty sure that in the course of thirty years, we’ve considered the alternatives for dealing with Iran and they should have been the main target of the war against terror right from the beginning.

Which hostilities exactly would those be; the rescue of Iranian fisherman from pirates by the US Navy or the rescue of Iranian sailors from a sinking cargo boat by the US Coast Guard? The last time I checked, those were the only two times in recent memory where American forces were on anything that could remotely be considered Iranian territory.

Notice how they bring up Israel? Now why on Earth would we base our entire national security on Israel? We seem to have ignored them for the last 10 years so why would we pay attention now?

Doc, we just can’t do anything, at least in the eyes of the Duff-nuts, to help ourselves, perhaps the Jooooo’s, and prevent a nuclear exchange in the ME.
Further down in the “article” is this gem, “You know, we hope, that influential — but myopic — forces abound who are willing to take great risk because they believe such events would rebound to the benefit of Israel. We make reference, of course, to the reckless Likud government in Israel and its equally reckless single-issue supporters here at home”.
