IVAW potsmoker at Occupy DC
Adam sends us a link to Gateway Pundit who links to Lagniappe’s Lair which reports that the “icon” of veterans in the Occupy DC protests, Michael Patterson, seen here in his IVAW hoodie was tossed out the Army for smoking pot;
From an interview Patterson did;
He tried to get out of the military as a conscientious objector after that. He was told it wouldn’t work because he’s an atheist. “So I just smoked a bunch of pot and got kicked out,” he says. He was officially discharged on June 7th of this year.
Yeah, that’s what an “icon” does. The good news for parents is that Patterson aspires to be a teacher, so you may see him in your school.
Category: Iraq Veterans Against the War, Occupy, Shitbags
I believe we’ve visited this young man, on this blog, in the past. I seem to recall us talking about his mad interrogator skillz and how important he was in interviewing individuals that were important enough to be snuffed after he was done with his mad interrogator skillz.
Then there’s this one: “In Zuccotti Park, Army Specialist Jerry Bordeleau, 24, was sitting next to a table of IWW (Industrial Workers of the World) literature. On his sweater were two buttons: an Iraq Campaign metal and one from the IWW. He served two tours in Iraq and now says he’s unemployed and can’t find work for over $10 an hour. And he can’t live on $10 an hour. When I asked him why he’s at Occupy Wall Street he says, “I went and fought for capitalism and that’s why I’m now a Marxist.”
Ok, genius, so you have to work a job for $10 an hour for a little while; so what? What do you mean you can’t live on $10 an hour? Why not? You can’t find a roommate to help with rent? You can’t take a full time job for $10 an hour and maybe pick up a part time job as well? Do you expect everything to just be handed to you? What a bunch of whiney assed pussies.
Yep this is the same person I wrote about in Nov. Same shitbag, different Occupy.
What a pissy little prima donna. I came back from Iraq and survived for three months on $9/hr before picking up my current job. (Bonus: it may have only $9/hr, but I was working at a gun store.)
Only $10/hour? Boo-fuckin hoo. At least you HAD a job. And judging by the little pencil-necked fucker, he didn’t lift anything heavier than an ice cream cone at the DFAC.
There’s nothing like a less-than-honorable discharge and an admission of drug use to pave the way for a successful career. It’s probably going to come as a shock to him to learn that the profession he desires doesn’t want him. Applicants for many professional jobs are rejected out of hand when there’s a drug-use history. Many people, I am sure, confuse the way those already in a profession are treated (i.e., second and third chances, treatment options) with how applicants are treated (i.e., “Thanks for coming in. Let me see you to the door.”) What’s more, there are many honorably discharged veterans in workplaces, and we do not reach out to quitters and those whose service was less than honorable.
When I got out of the Army, the only job I could find was as a security guard for $4.25/hour but that didn’t stop me from taking it. Then I got a work/study job in the VA office on campus for minimum wage, too. But then, I got the security job because I didn’t have a history of drug use, and I got the w/s job because I qualified for ed benefits. My life got easier because I wasn’t a dumbass.
He proves the adage….life is hard, it’s harder when you’re stupid.
Looks a little like MATT DAMON!! don’t he?
@9. I thought he looked like one of the guys from Midget Bowling.
Yeah his life is so hard….. Try getting med boarded out of the Army and being told that because you are disabled and waiting for VA checks to start you dont qualify for unemployment because it would be too hard for you to find work. I would have jumped at being able to have a 10 dollar an hour job so I wouldnt have to stress over how I was going to be able to have a place to sleep and food to eat.
He also proves the similar adage, you can’t fix stupid. When I got out of the Army, I got a job in a wall board factory, $4.15/hour to start, and all the dust I could inhale. Moved up from there to a box factory, making small cardboard boxes out of big sheets of cardboard, with an eye-opening rate of $4.62/hour, and all the paper cuts I wanted, free of charge. Kept at it, til I got onto the PD.
Looks like the midget from Jackass to me.
The Jackass was me. Ugh.
The day before I ETS’ed I played the lottery and won big–and I mean big. That, plus my considerable inheritance, not to mention the money I loaned a kid named Billy Gates for some garage project he was working on for shares in a little company he was going to start set me up for life. Then, I woke up and got a job.
You know, I can’t find a job, period. Everybody feels that I am overqualified in my two trained career fields that I’m screwed. I have a decade plus in armed and unarmed security as well as nine years in Army Supply. Do you think that security companies or warehouse companies want to pick me up? Nope. Why? Because, and I was actually told this, they don’t want to pay me what I am qualified for.
You know, I will take minimum wage if it means being able to get off food stamps and unemployment. Hell, the last job I took was perfect! But they fired me after I reorganized their file system to bring them up to state and federal regulations because I earn $3000 more a year than a non-veteran.
Now, I am looking for anything, but in the county I live in, being a Veteran is a disadvantage for hiring.
Flagwaver: I don’t know where you are and it may be that where you are just doesn’t support career entry or greater opportunities. That spells relocation or a whale of a commute but you will find a decent job. Try USA Jobs for federal opportunities and screw looking in the paper. That’s like trying to hit the lottery. Someone does but it’s the other guy. Cold calls with a cover letter (you do write well) and a resume work wonders sometimes. Get to the local VFW or AL and make some contacts. FedEx and UPS are (or were) doing seasonal hiring if either of them is around you. The shit will break. Times are tough but you will prevail.
Oregon (I know, I know). I’m volunteering with the Salvation Army right now and trying to kick off my own business.
Anyway, back to the Douchebag…
Unfortunately, I’ve met this douche….. Prior to his service, or failed services, what have you. Sad to say, he isn’t far off from what I expected. When I heard he’d joined the armyI though maybe he’d become a little more focused, not such a fuck up, ad not the complete douche he was even then. Yes, sadly, he’s just about the same kid I remember observing and shaking my head at. Most of these morons just want to live out of their parents basements, smoke weed (come on, I’m all for legalization of pot, but I’m not saying its the answer to my problems….. And im certainly not focusing my life around it), and get their monthly hand outs from uncle sugar. Pattersons failure in life is the inability to fulfill commitments. Army’s not what you thought? Finish your commitment and get out. Do it honorably. Instead, when this idiot….if this idiot ever achieves his goal of earning a teachers license, I find it very plausible he will blame the rest of society for his inability to secure a teaching position due to his OTH discharge, and coupled with his felony record, I’m sure we will all be the reason he’s unable to gain employment. Like my brother said…. This kid just needs to move out and draw fire.
Most people are conscientious objectors before they sign up, before they deploy, and before they go on R & R. You also can’t claim CO status without first having lived the lifestyle you are trying to portray yourself as. THat said, you can’t enlist in the Armed Forces, knowing full well what the US Armed forces does, and then claim that you are a CO. Love how people like this douche nozzle and Ehren Watada sign up IN A TIME OF WAR and expect to be excused from participating in a theater of conflict.
Patterson was a piece of crap. He is not a fucking veteran. He spent less than 2 months in Iraq. He was in our unit out of Fort Hood (163 MI BN, 504 BfSB). He went AWOL, blamed it on his NCO even though he said he didn’t need help when he brought it up to the NCO. He is and always was a little bitch. 300 interrogations my ass. My left nut is more of a veteran than you.
Wondering how that Death before Dishonor tattoo is treating him.
If he was kicked out of the Army for smoking pot … my bet is he won’t get that teaching job.
Here are some career choices:
– Fish Monger
– Sanitation Worker (scratch that – public trust position)
– State of CO Hemp Worker (scratch that requires clean record)
Ah … wait for it …
Got it …
– IVAW or Ocuppy Worker
– Sh*t Shoveler in Hell
