Yet another female phony
Stinger Wooten sends us a link to an article from Bakersfield Now about another female phony soldier, by the name of Ashleigh Martel;
Eyewitness News obtained Martel’s discharge document, or DD-214. It confirms she left the Army in April 2009 and does not list a Purple Heart among her medals. She [sic] closest match is a Combat Action Badge.
Also, a Veterans Affairs document shows “no evidence of a head injury” and “no evidence of hospitalization.”
Staat said it took an emotionally draining three-hour conversation with Martel to get the truth from her.
Apparently, she defrauded local charities of over 6 thousand bucks.
The Wounded Heroes Fund has not decided whether to pursue legal action.
Do it…why think it over?
Category: Phony soldiers
Well she conned not one but several real combat veterans, she must be good with words.
THIS MAKES MY BLOOD BOIL!!!!! I truly hate and despise phony soldiers and fakers. A true example of a fundamental flaw in character and integrity. I’m glad she got exposed and I hope they charge and convict her to the max. She ”EARNED IT”!!!
She needs to return the money she stole and then get clubbed like a baby seal.
she needs to do some PT. I’m not much for beating the shit out of women (which I WOULD do if this were a guy). I guess she could go for a good smoking
I wonder is she altered any thing else in her own records since she might have been in a position to do so.
The 23-year-old woman spent nearly three years in the Army and just more than a year in Iraq, working as a human resource specialist in a combat zone.
Here is another one.
FORWARD OPERATING BASE LOYALTY, Iraq – Spc. Ashleigh Martel, a human resources specialist with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Multi-National Division – Baghdad, works on preparing awards for Soldiers at Forward Operating Base Loyalty. Martel, a Bakersfield Calif., native, is deployed to Iraq along with her husband, Staff Sgt. Matthew Martel.
Doc’s not kidding about her needing some PT. She should be in jail for fraud.
Good job by KBFX for covering this story.
Mmmmm Curvey Woman !!!
How do you reckon a Human Resource Specialist gets a CAB? I suppose either she was in a convoy that was hit or…not…and then, what Spork said?
PT? Smoking PT for a female con artist? How about jail!
#3 That’s no baby seal, it’s a full sized walrus. This is the perfect pro bono case. The Fund should contact the Kern County bar association. Bakersfield might have a couple dozen lawyers to do this free. It is a straight forward civil fraud case. Done a half dozen or more. The problem is collection. She’s a shallow pocket and might do a BK. The objection to discharge would be more work than the underlying fraud suit. If she’s charged criminally and convicted of fraud, the judge could order restitution and make it part of her probation and hound her till she pays. Restitution is not dischargeable in bankruptcy and a BK would probably leave the Fund as the only creditor left standing. Easier to collect that way.
[…] wanted to do a follow up on the post Jonn made. First thing I found was this link to when she was deployed with the Headquarters and Headquarters […]
Okay, didn’t hear she didn’t even have a Purple Heart on her DD Form 214… now know. 71L oxygen/doughnut thief.
Only 6 months? Bah.
You know what pisses me off about these stories? There are so many troops who deserve PH and don’t have them. Not because of anything nefarious, but because of pride.
I’m one of them.
I was injured in an artillery strike in 2003 and have a permanent profile as a result. At the time I refused to turn in my DA 1156 because I felt guilty about surviving the attack and thought that I had only bruised my back. I’ve got a medical file over an inch thick as the Army as tried to fix my back and I have a regular prescription to Vicodin to manage the pain, but I still refuse to go begging for my medal.
Yet, these pukes use it for personal gain. Just makes me sick.
Oh, and for the record, I’m in NO WAY saying that people who accept their much deserved Purple Hearts are in any way less honorable or deserving. I hope I didn’t come across that way.
This ‘woman’ was in my unit and this exactly like her. She did everything she could to get out of things and get benefits. I hope they crucify her.
That’s not a woman it’s a whale with legs. I wouldn’t hit that with somebody else’s c*#$!
She received the CAB from when the FOB got hit with IRAM’s
[…] This story is from the later part of last year, but still deserves a write up. This was also covered by our friends over at thisainthell. You can see their write up on her here Ashleigh Martel. […]
I worked with the dumb bitch n the most action she received in Iraq was when people needed the awards. I can’t stand her ass. I knew she was crazy. She got out cause she got pregnant. Wit no scars on her
I can almost guarantee that she has claimed SA to the VA. It is a high paying identifier….(with political issues and implications)
I am not making light of a very, very serious issue but look at the numbers.
Im NOT suprised, FORT POLK NEVER HAD THEY SHIT TOGETHER they always worried about the wrong stuff & they JACKED UP GOOD ol BOYs KLUB/chain of command…. #IJS
Jesus Effin Christ. I was in Loyalty’s chow hall during the iram attack. Didn’t realize they blanketed the entire camp with cabs. Makes sense though with all the stupid crap Ft. Polk was pullin. She probably would have had a better chance claiming her Purple Heart for bein in green beans coffee when it got blown up in the attack. That would have at least been somewhat believable for her lyin fat ass. The scar on her neck looks more like a tracheotomy scar that people who overdose on pills tend to get.
And she worked on awards… That would explain why the paperwork for MY Purple Heart mysteriously vanished.
11B Vet: if possible, get two witness statements from buddies who can verify the wound/injury and the circumstances leading up to it – specifically, that it was due to enemy action. And get copies of your military treatment records for the wound.
If you’re still in (Active or Reserve) take this to your chain-of-command. If you;re no longer in the military, contact a local veteran’s organization (state veteran’s rep, DAV, American Legion, VFW); they may be able to assist. Or send the paperwork with a polite letter requesting assistance to your Congresscritter. (I’d ask for 2 originals of the witness statements, just in case the mail loses one, or send certified copies vice sending the originals.)
There is no 3-year time limit for award of the Purple Heart (AR 600-8-22, para 1-15c). Unlike virtually all other decorations, if one qualifies one is entitled to receive the Purple Heart.
To Hondo: yeah I already debated trying to get my Purple Heart myself. My year stuck on recruiting duty gave me plenty of time to read regs and get good at paperwork, but honestly, it was originally put in for a concussion I sustained as a 50 cal gunner when my Hummer got hit with an EFP. I didn’t care care about the damn enemy marksmanship badge since it was only a concussion, so I was surprised my PL put the paperwork in for it anyway. Then somehow all the paperwork including the med report for it vanished during brigade HQ’s shuffle from one camp to another. I still don’t really care about it at this point now that I’m out. It’s just the principle of it that I got screwed out of a Bronze Star the first time I went to Iraq cause some major at division decided there was no way a specialist deserved one unless he died in combat. Then the second time I go my chain of command set me up for success and bitches like her are the reason why shit gets screwed up for everyone below brigade level. One of the guys in my truck that day got the same result even though he actually took some shrapnel. I’m tryin to help him get his and he said he’d help write a statement for mine, but like I said, it was never really important to me to begin with and my VA disability rating is high enough that a Purple Heart wouldn’t really benefit me and I don’t personally feel that my injury really warranted one in the first place.
Must concur with Hondo on this, 11B vet. While I understand your frustration and unwillingness to pursue it (for all the right reasons), please do so anyway. With everything that will surely be learned about brain injuries of every stripe in the next few years, it could very well help you to have that documentation – not for the medal, but for the medical information, or at least the fact that there should be medical information in your records which is now missing.
Then again – the decision is entirely yours to make. All best in any case.
ALCON,
My name is Matthew Martel and I am the ex-husband of this Soldier. I became aware of this whole scandal yesterday, 22 Jan 2013. I would like to express my sincere apologies to all of our brothers and sisters in arms, especially to those who have received a purple heart. I can tell you guys a lot of things about Ashleigh both good and bad. I do not condone her actions and feel embarrassed probably more than anyone. I can tell you guys that she did receive a CAB for the being around the numerous mortar attacks on both Rusty and Loyalty. As for her scar, she did have surgery to remove her thyroid which gave her numerous complications which led to other problems resulting in the loss of our son (he died in my hands). So go ahead and make fun of her weight if you’d like but I can tell you this, y’all don’t know even a fraction of the medical issues she has undergone. I know exactly what she had gone through as I was by her side through all of it.
I don’t care what y’all say about her in the sense that she lied about this purple heart, cuz she did. But unless you know everything else, please don’t say a word. If you have questions regarding our personal life come talk to me. I’m not hard to find.

Matthew, I don’t know how you just found out about this scandal 3 weeks ago when you share a daughter together? Unless she is not your child. I would suspect that you maintain contact with her and people that know her, though you aren’t married anymore and would have heard about the scandal in 2011 when everyone else in town did. I feel sorry for you and am sorry about your son, I am happy that you got away from her, I know what a great liar she is, she is a pathological liar, says she’s a nurse, her moms a pediatrician, she dated someone I knew in 2006 and she was what I would say fatally attracted to him, the lies that came form her mouth we’re crazy and I do believe that she believed every one of them herself. I think she should repay the money she received and do prison time, I don’t know why someones not pursuing this and have been in hopes that they do. I worry about her child, Ashleigh is a nut!
