TSA conducting security exercise

The exercise will cover approximately 5,000 square miles throughout Ohio, Kentucky and West Virginia. The participating teams are composed of a variety of TSA assets including federal air marshals, canine teams, inspectors and bomb appraisal officers. They will be joined by state and local law enforcement officials to supplement existing resources, provide detection and response capabilities. The exercise will utilize multiple airborne assets, including Blackhawk helicopters and fixed wing aircraft as well as waterborne and surface teams.

“The exercise not only enhances security throughout the region; it gives TSA and our security partners the opportunity to work cooperatively,” said TSA Columbus Federal Security Director Donald Barker. “This work increases our preparedness to respond in case of an emergency.”

I have NO IDEA why the TSA is doing this exercise? Maybe at a seaport, or an airport, but THREE states?

This is enough to overwork my inner paranoid.

Ohio, Kentucky and W. Va. have 6 year old girls that need molesting? MoH recipients who need to be strip-searched? Vets who need extra scrutiny because of their wounds? Who’d have known?
What could go wrong, indeed?

What kind of “exercise” is it? What is the goal of the training? Are they training on roads? What is the training scenario? I haven’t seen too many terrorist plots that involved the highways and biways of the Ohio River Valley.

If nothing else, the thought of them conducting an exercise of such proportions should make us all nervous.

This reminds me of another recent government fustercluck: “Oh hey guys, here’s a great idea for tracking illegally purchased guns into Mexico!”

I should have bought stock in Reynold’s Aluminum Foil: gonna be a lotta black helicopters buzzing around the asylum soon!

How many interstate federal security agencies do we have? In the event of the big one, what operational chain of command would be employed? The TSA operates under DHS. So does FEMA, although they should focus on disaster relief. The FBI would operate under the DoJ, right? Where would the Natty Guard fit in? Where would local and state police fit in?

It just amazes me the number of redundant departments in our government. I’m not saying we should abolish all areas of the government. I’m just wondering what jurisdictional authority the TSA would have that would legally trump the national guard or FBI, for instance.

We could eliminate half of the departments in the federal government and have no loss of service or benefit to the civilian population. In fact, it would probably improve by making the Chain of Command more streamlined.

Why the hell does TSA think they are LE? They need to be friggin drop kicked out of existence.

Huh, did Biden get lost again?

I think of a bunch of gun-toting yahoo city-slickers in the woods and the only thing that comes to mind is the old movie, “Southern Comfort.” Not a good scenario.

#10 Sparky: don’t make fun of the NY Army National Guard. They’d be quick to point out there’s no hyphen between “city” and “slickers.”

Sparky,

I’ve been considering using “Southern Comfort” during my high school presentations as an example of why NOT to join LARNG over the Army…
