Too little, too late

| March 17, 2011

So while Gaddafi (or however you spell his name this week) finishes up combat operations against the rebels in Libya, the UN moves with lightening speed to catch up to facts on the ground there as they existed early last week. In The Guardian;

Washington’s ambassador to the United Nations, Susan Rice, urges the security council to pass a new resolution authorising aerial bombing of Muammar Gaddafi’s tanks.

The US is pushing the UN to authorise not just a no-fly zone over Libya, but also the use of air strikes to stop the advance of forces loyal to Muammar Gaddafi.

Washington’s ambassador to the UN, Susan Rice, said on Wednesday that a no-fly zone would have only a limited use, and that the Obama administration was working “very hard” to pass a new resolution, which would authorise the use of aerial bombing of Libyan tanks and heavy artillery.

Yeah, it seems to me that it’s a little too late. If the goal of the civilized world was to remove Gaddafi, it seems thoroughly blown. Sure we could start targeting Gaddafi’s supporters and their tanks, but wouldn’t that just be a war like Afghanistan where we loaned air support to the Northern Alliance? I guess this is the Obama Administration lesson in depending on allies to reach our political goals any where in the world.

we could have engendered trust with the people had we acted quickly. Now that the rebels have been pasted, we’re past that.

I can’t help but feel that failing to address this issue now will mean that at some point down the road, we will be forced to take matters into our own hands. By then, the only ones left in Libya who oppose Gaddaffi will be Al Qaeda.

Who says it’s the end? Khaddafy may finish cleaning up the pro-freedom forces, but he’s still got the Muslim Brotherhood and the Iranians to deal with afterward.

The US is gonna have to do it by themselves as Italy this morning or yesterday vetoed the use of air bases in that country. Not sure how much training other countries have with landing on a US aircraft carrier. I know NATO practices refueling with our tankers and that the AWACS are compatible or at least they use to be. Also, who in the worthless POS called the UN security council will veto any such measure. If we were going to do it it surely should have been sooner rather than later. So much for having a Havard educated half (associate) not even a real full fledged professor in the WH.

And the beat goes on…. (*sigh*)

TL2: Too Little, Too Late.

Par for the course with the current administration. The fact that we did not act quickly and unilaterally based on requests from the rebels to establish a no-fly zone is flatly shameful.

But NOoooooooo…we have to ask the UN permission to wipe our ass, much less come to the aid of indig rebels who are fighting and dying in an attempt to rid themselves and the world of a boil upon the collective buttocks of humanity.
