The folly of crossing a Marine.
Some of you may have hear this story. But just in case here is the short version. Guy goes into a Best Buy and tries to steal a laptop computer. When confronted by the store employees he ran for the door waving a knife in hand and ran into a few Marines doing the Toys for Tots.
Outside the door were four Marines and seven volunteers collecting donations for Toys for Tots.
“(Duggan) clotheslined him, and after that he kind up got up and started swinging a knife around,” Smith said.
Gunnery Sgt. Robert Richie said Attaway “came over the top and got (Duggan) in the back.”
Attaway ran again but didn’t get far before Richie, several other Marines and members of the store’s loss-prevention team tackled him in the parking lot and held him until deputies arrived.
I hate to be that guy, I mean causing a Marine to bled in front of 4 other Marines can only be bad news.
Fellow Marines identified the injured man as Cpl. Phillip Duggan, 24, who spent part of Black Friday recuperating at Eisenhower Army Medical Center with injuries that were not life-threatening.
The attacker has been arrested and facing charges of armed robbery, aggravated assault and possession of a knife in the commission of a crime.
The story has been checked by Snopes.

Good on ’em.
Too bad they didn’t take that knife and make him look like a popsicle. Probably a turd-burglar who got a DISHONORABLE before DADT passed. heh.
The United States Marine Corps.
You get something out of it whether you’ve been one or not.
That’s a good one, OldCavLt. Never heard that before.

Just reading this, it make me chuckle. I picture the scene in the Ocean’s 11 movie where the guy is explaining to Brad Pitt and George Clooney about the times that people have tried to rob a casino and failed. In one of the stories, they show a guy getting his ass closelined and flipped on his ass by security as he’s trying to get away. I imagine something like that happening here.
It also makes me chuckle just thinking of how this schmuck robber didn’t even bother to realize he was trying to rob a store that was unofficially being guarded by a group of US Marines. He probably went in thinking all he had to do was outrun the Best Buy security and then BAM! he runs into a US Marine Corps forearm and is clotheslined to the ground. AWESOME. heh
Oh, but that said, wishing a quick recovery to Cpl. Phillip Duggan. US Marine or not, I can’t imagine getting stabbed in the back (literally in this case) felt very good.
Best wishes for Cpl Duggan. To be injured, over Christmas? That’s got to double hurt.
And I’m surprised the wanna-be burglar lived long enough to have charges pressed on him. Must have been too many witnesses around. Too bad, would have saved the state a whole lotta money for a trial and jail upkeep.
Checked at Snopes???? Gee guys I guess cause I live in the state and it has been on the news more then a few times I am surprised at that. Yes it is true and in fact yesterday or Saturday they were all received formal recognition in a ceremony at the Best Buy. The incident took place on Black Friday over the Thanksgiving weekend. All are doing fine and in a rare moment of clarity no employees were fired.
Lucky it made the news in the Atlanta area since no guns were involved and nobody died. Normally isn’t enough time in the evening news for simple stabbings or beatings.

The claimed reason that they checked it at Snopes is because of a paragraph that apparently someone added to the official news article while circulating the story in e-mail:
==========
An account of this incident circulated via e-mail in December 2010 (reproduced Example section above) was presented as a 27 November Associated Press account of the incident. While the circulated account was indeed based on that very news article, it contained a paragraph not found in the original:
The suspect was transported to the local hospital with two broken arms, a broken leg, possible broken ribs, assorted lacerations and bruises he obtained when he fell trying to run after stabbing the Marine.
(The audience is supposed to read between the lines in the preceding text and conclude that the suspect did not fall but rather was beaten by the other three Marines.)
None of the news accounts we examined indicated that Attaway was injured, either while being subdued or afterwards. That bit appears to be pure invention on the part of the person who inserted the additional paragraph into the news account, thereby transforming it into a “Don’t mess with the Marines” object lesson.
==========
Apparently Snopes found it highly important to make sure that people weren’t to learn that lesson. *eye roll*
Lets see. What would I rather take on? A pack of 200 angry, hungry, feral dogs or a platoon of Marines who’s buddy I just stabbed in the back while he was collecting toys?
I’m thinking dogs would be easier.
I would like to think, were they Navy, Air Force, or Army there would have been a similar result. I know one thing. Don’t F**K with the US Military.
