Portland got reprieve they didn’t deserve

| November 29, 2010

Byron York of the Washington Examiner writes this morning that Portland, Oregon, the target of wannabe jihadist Mohamed Osman Mohamud this last week, rejected cooperation with the Bush Administration law enforcement and counter-terror entities;

What is ironic is that the operation that found and stopped Mohamud is precisely the kind of law enforcement work that Portland’s leaders, working with the American Civil Liberties Union, rejected during the Bush years. In April 2005, the Portland city council voted 4 to 1 to withdraw Portland city police officers from participating in the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force. Mayor Tom Potter said the FBI refused to give him a top-secret security clearance so he could make sure the officers weren’t violating state anti-discrimination laws that bar law enforcement from targeting suspects on the basis of their religious or political beliefs.

Other city leaders agreed. “Here in Portland, we are not willing to give up individual liberties in order to have a perception of safety,” said city commissioner Randy Leonard. “It’s important for cities to know how their police officers are being used.”

So, despite the best efforts of the Portland city fathers, federal law enforcement stopped an attack on some 25,000 of it’s citizens who attended that Christmas Tree lighting, or, if the Feds hadn’t found Mohamud first, “an operation here, you know, like something like Mumbai….”

York reports that the Portland City government is considering a change to the Bush-era legislation “– because Barack Obama is in the White House”. It seems to me that they consider a lot of things in light of last week’s arrest. Like which side they want to be on in the war against terror.

Remember also that Portland is the same city that had an anti-war protest back in 2007, where a bunch of anarchists had a grand old time dropping trou and shitting on the American flag.

Jonn is right–Portland got a reprieve they didn’t deserve, but got anyway. Amazing how quickly they’ll cooperate when they realize that jihadists want them just as dead as the rest of us.

Fucktards.

Teh mayor wanted a TS clearance, so he could monitor how his officers weren’t profiling? Well, Mr. Mayor, mayhaps the Feds came to the conclusion that someone with a name that denotes, possibly, being a moooslem Somalian and was in contact with folks in Pahk-eee-stan, was actually a moooslem wanna-be killer? If he was profiled, should he be released now? Oh, that’s right, your guy is in the Whte House now, it’s all rainbows and unicorn farts now.
And, Jonn, they want to be on the side of the “progressives”, that’s all.

Fortunately Potter isn’t mayor anymore. Portland elected themselves another shitbag who isn’t any better. The only reason Portland will re-join the task force (if they do at all) is because of this. The JTTF isn’t and wasn’t on Mayor Adams’ radar.

All of us Oregonians were against Portland dropping out of the JTTF. Now this happens. I’m sure Potter will still stand by his decision to leave it.

And I won’t say Portland got a reprieve. They’ve been a magnet for this. Remember the Portland Seven? The former Mayor Katz had one of them intern on her staff. Another member, Maher (Mike) Hawash worked at Intel. He was the poster child for The Oregonian newspaper because he was kept under wraps as a material witness. Of course, later on he plead guilty to conspiracy to aid the Taliban.

Most Oregonians I know have washed our hands of ‘Moscow on the Willamette’ a long time ago.

Unfortunately, it sounds like Oregon is like so many other liberal shitholes like CA, WA, NY, etc, where a small concentration of liberal urbanite douchenozzles holds sway over the rest of the for-the-most-part pretty conservative state.

NHSparky, you are correct as far as Oregon is concerned. Portland acts like the whole state revolves around it.

Three of the five most populous counties in Oregon are centered around Portland. And let me tell you they run rough-shod over the rest of the state.

I would say that I’m holding my breath waiting on CAIR and the ACLU to jump to this kid’s defense claiming that he was set up and entrapped but, wait, that happened within 24 hours of his arrest! Apparently, they had to dig out the anti-American playbook and had trouble finding it. Although, you’d think they had it memorized by now…

If America were just NYC, Berkeley, Portland, etc., (or rather like their average), it would be difficult for Troops to find the resolve to risk all to defend them.

Fortunately for Portland, Our Protectors risk their lives for all Americans, because there are enough Citizens and Family Members that deserve and respect the risks taken to keep them safe.

As I wrote yesterday, the peaceniks are gearing up their attention and efforts on Afghanistan, after having successfully misportrayed Iraq. It’ll take a combined effort to keep Americans aware of the Ground Truth and it’s unlikely the MSM will help a bit.
