Recruiters told to accept openly gay applicants
The Associated Press reports that the Department of Defense says it accepting openly gay recruits in response to the judicial decision made last week that the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell is unconstitutional.
The Defense Department said it would comply with the law and had frozen any discharge cases. But at least one case was reported of a man being turned away from an Army recruiting office in Austin, Texas.
Pentagon spokeswoman Cynthia Smith on Tuesday confirmed that recruiters had been given top-level guidance to accept applicants who say they are gay.
Recruiters also have been told to inform potential recruits that the moratorium on enforcement of “don’t ask, don’t tell” could be reversed at any point, if the ruling is appealed or the court grants a stay, she said.
It figures that the PC crowd at DoD would construe the withdrawal of DADT as a reason to open the floodgates. I’m still not convinced that thousands or hundreds or even tens of gays are now going to flood into the recruiters’ offices and crowd their way into the military.
This whole fight was for the gesture not to give anyone some “right”. And I wouldn’t doubt that the judge made her decision in cahoots with the Justice Department to give Obama the chance to vote “present” right before the midterm elections.
There’s still the UCMJ’s Article 125 to deal with.

I’m glad they’re repealing DADT. It gives us more people to shoot in the red zone…
Me, I’ve been swamped all day, I finally left the office to take a “smoke break” just now. One couple told me they’d been waiting since 0530 for the office to open and that mall security tried to chase them off a few times. A tall, black transvestite eerily resembling RuPaul insisted that he/she be processed immediately. Despite the best work of myself and my compatriots, by 1200 the line was still out the door. Finally, MEPS called and told us to stop projecting people today as they’ve had over 350 projections from South Louisiana alone…and those are only the qualified people. Looking across the hall at the Navy, they are faring even worse. They have 1/3rd the manpower we do, yet easily have twice the number of Prospects in and around their office. The Air Force Recruiter was smart; I saw him pull up this morning, see the line, and take back off in his POV. Right now, I have three going down Friday. One, Mike McManus, has already referred three Asian men as potential recruits. He really wants his promotion before he leaves. This guy is so motivated he already has a mess dress uniform and all the medals he plans to earn during his career! Well, gotta go, we’re already being told to expect to work overnight. I’ll probably check back in next week if things die down.

I’m sure there are some penumbras emanating somewhere in the Constitution guaranteeing the “right”, NHSparky. They couldn’t find those emanating penumbras until 1973 for abortion. Apparently it took them until 2010 to find the homosexual penumbras emanating. Emanating penumbras are tricky like that.
And what, exacly was the DoD’s reason for not waiting until the case was completely played out in court before throwing in the towel? Oh yeah… “Commander in Chief.” They’re not naming names, but this directive had to come from someone. Retirement looks better and better the longer this circus is in town.
Gay behavior would also fall quite nicely into Article 134 as well. Conduct prejudicial to good order and discipline.
This aint rocket science. The attitude of many, but of course not all, gays is that we have to bend over, so to speak and make allowances for their particular deviancy. For those who think so, they have no place in the military at all, given that the military functions properly when its members subordinate self to service and self to country’s best interests. Particularly in the Marine Corps. Not a lot of tolerance for rugged (or swishy) individualists in that clan.
If I had to guess, I’d say the UCMJ’s sodomy laws (article 125) will likely be re-written or removed within the next ten years.
Article 134 is extremely broad, covering a bunch of things not specifically addressed elseware in the UCMJ. Homosexual behavior would fit in there in the same sense that kissing a fellow soldier of the opposite sex would, if such action were during an inappropriate time, and if it interfered with the proper functioning of a unit.
Also, since Article 125 still exists in it’s current form, article 134 would not be applied for homosexual behavior since it’s already addressed in 125. I believe one of the provisios of 134 is that it can’t be used to address something for which there is already an article.
