The strange candidacy of Alvin Greene

Alvin Greene was tracked down by a local TV station recently in South Carolina. Howling “Nooooo! Gooooo!” he probably didn’t do much for his chances for the Senate seat he seeks (WISTV link);

The Atlantic Wire‘s Ray Gustini wonders if enough is enough;

…there comes a point where even an occasionally incoherent, childlike Senate candidate under indictment on obscenity charges stops being hilarious. For Alvin Greene, that day was yesterday. Specifically, the moment he began to howl on live television. As Slate’s Dave Weigel asked when linking to it, “At this point, how is this different from making fun of the mentally disabled kid in junior high?”

Black Voices’ Jam Donaldson wonders what the problem is that got Greene indicted last week on felony porn charges;

OK, I’m not sure what’s going on in South Carolina but the notion that showing some girl porn on your computer is a felony that can land you in jail for five years, is really shocking.

Showing some random college student porn and trying to get in her panties may make you a creep, a pervert or a loser, but a FELON?

I think it’s strange that the Democrats have finally found a line they won’t cross. They supported William Jefferson through his campaign after the FBI found $90 thousand in his refrigerator. They supported Marion Berry after he got out of prison for his video taped usage of crack with a hooker in a hotel and then ran for mayor of DC one last time.

The Chair of the Democratic Party in South Carolina, Carol Fowler, has issued a statement calling for Greene to resign from the race.

Oh, but Tom Delay has been cleared after a six-year investigation.
