Exercising his first amendment right to defraud a community

| July 30, 2010

TSO sent me this link about a Walter Coleman who pretended to be a veteran to start a foundation to raise money for a Fallen Heroes monument in Texas

Walter Coleman said the United States Fallen Heroes Foundation was a non-profit agency — but it wasn’t.

Coleman used two names, and he represented himself as a veteran when he is not.

“I think it’s sick that someone would essentially try to fraudulently raise money in the name of men and women who have given their lives for their country,” said State Rep. Chris Turner (D-Kennedale).

Hey! The fuckwad was just exercising his First Amendment right to pretend he’s a veteran. So what if he ripped off a few rubes…his freedom of speech is more important that the damage he did to the community, the foundation and the reputation of veterans, isn’t it?

It was a television station that busted Coleman – he couldn’t have been doing anything wrong, because the State or the Feds would have busted him, right? This is just a witch hunt against a good American workin’ his Bill of Rights.

Fraud is already a crime. So why do we need the Stolen Valor Act to nail this scumbag?

PintoNag

I think two counts of fraud would work just fine.

AFSister

Perfect example of how pretending to be a veteran lead to other crimes.

TSO

So Charlie, if he just faked that he was a veteran, and the money did go to memorial, which he also lied about how much money he had raised for, then there would be no crime right?

All Stolen Valor is fraud, and the benefits are either tangible or intangible. Either way, if like me, you have to raise money for veterans issues, every one of these assholes makes it that much harder.

#2 PintoNag,
“I think two counts of fraud would work just fine.”

I think two counts of double-tap would be better. No? Too extreme? Sighhhh. . . .

I like your extreme just fine, but I had advocated mayhem enough for one day in some of my other posts today, so I thought I’d rein it in just a bit on this one.

Please give to the Wannabe Veteran’s Pocket Enrichment Fund! (I’m sure people may want to donate some free ass-whuppin’, though.)
