Hutarees released

| May 4, 2010

There’s another reason for Mark Potok to be angry this morning – a judge released the Hutarees while they await trial;

“The United States is correct that it need not wait until people are killed before it arrests conspirators,” US District Judge Victoria Roberts said in her ruling.

“But, the defendants are also correct: Their right to engage in hate-filled, venomous speech, is a right that deserves First Amendment protection.”

She said federal prosecutors failed to persuade her that the defendants must be jailed until trial, the Detroit Free News reports.

Despite the media’s best attempt to frame these doofuses as dangerous criminal terrorists on par with al Qaeda just to give them boogiemen to shake infront of the camera, the fact remains that they are doofuses. I mean, look at them. They look like victims of a lifetime of wedgies and indian burns.

We all watched their “training videos” – they didn’t have a clue between the nine of ’em. Not that they weren’t a danger – anyone who was not in their line of fire was in danger of being hit.

Damn that Constitution, eh Potok?

As I have said many times; the left is only interested in the Constitution when it benefits them, otherwise they ignore it even exists.

I have to agree with OldTrooper on this one. I’m also going to be interested in seeing what happens to the charges in this case. My initial guess is that several of the charges will be downgraded, if not dismissed, and that a couple of the idjits will be released.

This case looks more and more as though DoJ and DHS were trying to find some low-hanging fruit to grab and prosecute as a show trial to reinforce their “right-wing domestic terror” meme. The incompetence shown by both sides so far doesn’t surprise me anymore. Sigh.

The Fed Prosecutor tried to convince the judge that, because a Detroit police officer was killed and four wounded day before yesterday, that the Hutaree should be denied bond. Despite the fact that the killing and wounding of those officers had absolutely nothing to do with the Hutaree.
I sure feel much safer knowing that Eric Holder is in charge, his appointees are just the sharpest knives in the drawer.

I recently got info back from the Schantags about the unnamed “combat medal” that Michael Isikoff of Newsweek attributed to Michael David Meeks of the Hutaree militia, in an article that not-too-subtly inferred that any veteran anywhere could turn into a raving violent anti-government loon at any moment. Turns out the “combat medal” was a meritorious mast. That’s going to look pretty strange pinned above his breast pocket.
