Strange Days

| September 26, 2025

Seemed like a good day for followups and wierdos.

Former Major Hassan? Reportedly he practiced extensively with his 5.7 at 100 yards at Ft. Hood. I like equivalent justice – let’s roll him out and tie him to a post, issue 5.7s to a bunch of average shots 100 yards off, and let them chip away at him a while. No reloading limits. ( I also favor impalement for rapists, too.)

You may have heard of an intelligence officer instructor at Ft. Huachuca who was facing trial as a tickle monster, a former enlisted captain name of Christopher Wilkinson, who took French leave a few weeks before his trial in 2021.

He was granted leave, according to court records, “based in part on his history of professionalism and timeliness.”

He instead fled, leading to a yearslong manhunt that ended in rural Illinois, where investigators spotted Wilkinson’s blue 1963 Chevy pickup parked at his mother’s home — and the fugitive ex-captain stashed away upstairs.  Task and Purpose

No need to worry about missing his court date, the court martial was conducted in absentia* and he has a three year sentence pending, BEFORE they tack on charges for his deciding to spend the intervening years elsewhere.

No word on whether his mother will be charged, as she should be, or what will happen to that repainted truck. Not exactly the best idea to keep driving the same 62 year old vehicle for five years after going on the lam in it, now, is it? (For you gearheads, looks to be a pretty solid old 6 cylinder stepside.)

Then we get to Camp Pendleton, where a civilian holding a lit flare was stopped trying to board a Marine chopper.

The incident occurred around 10 p.m. as two helicopter crews were training near an isolated landing pad that sits just west of Interstate 5 on bluffs that overlook the ocean, according to court documents and military records.

Some of the details are interesting – this is the FOURTH time this clown has been arrested for trespassing at the camp.

Marine Corps records showed the same man previously trespassed on Camp Pendleton in September 2022, September 2023 and May 27 of this year, according to the agent. At the time of his arrest last week, agents allegedly found a “ U.S. District Court summons” in the man’s possession that correlated to a trespassing citation issued for the May 27 incident.

Luckily the chopper crew saw him coming, warned him off, and was able to fly away before anything worse occurred. They radioed the Marine police who found the guy still there, and two burned-out flares.

After his arrest, the man allegedly told authorities that “the State Department sent ‘radio waves’ to his head, telling him to light a flare and board the aircraft,” according to a probable cause statement written by an agent with the Marine Corps Criminal Investigation Division.Military.com

Four times? Strother Martin put it best: “Some men you just can’t reach.” They say he is in pre-trial detention – to fill the time the numbers 5150 are appropriate (and I don’t mean the Van Halen album.)

Speaking of music, the 60-boat aid flotilla headed to Gaza is getting some interesting comms issues. Seems all their communications channels are being jammed and overriden with an endless tape loop of Swedish group ABBA’s  song “Lay All Your Love On Me”. They either get to listen to it over and over, or have to shut off comms with the other boats.  Well, Greta Thunberg is Swedish – she can feel right at home with that, eh? Not sure whether this constitutes a war crime to the rest of ’em – it’s cruel and unusual, for sure.

Suspected Israeli forces have subjected the Global Sumud Flotilla on which activist Greta Thunberg is sailing towards Gaza on a mission to deliver aid to a novel form of warfare. In addition to pyrotechnics, the flotilla’s organizers have reported a unique method of auditory deterrence.

Forces unknown, but presumably Israeli, have been playing endless repeats of the Abba song ‘Lay All Your Love On Me’ over VHF channels near the convoy. Vessels in the Sumud Flotilla appear unable to rid themselves of the endless repeats of the song without switching off their radios and losing communications with each other. Drones are also apparently dropping sonic percussion grenades on some of the flotilla’s vessels.Maritime Executive

Israel says they can dock at Ashkelon, but the flotilla is headed for the Gaza coast. They should enter Israeli waters’ 200 mile zone by Sunday.

* my favorite Brendan Behan quote is about ‘in absentia’: “I was court-martialled in my absence, and sentenced to death in my absence, so I said they could shoot me in my absence.”

I wonder if that ‘63 Chevy Truck is for sale…

5JC

It’s nice, I had a section chief at Bragg that had one and he loved it. I think his was a 65 though. Definitely have to clean the seats before driving.

Drag Racing Maniac

I used to own a ‘62 and a ‘65 many years ago. My favorite is the ‘57 though. Had one of those when I was in high school.

There is (was?) One listed on Facebook not long ago in the northern illinois area, Rockford maybe. Looked to be in pretty decent shape according to pics provided. I want to say they advertised it as a southern truck.

Graybeard

They’re nice, but I still prefer a old Ford with the 300 cu. in. straight 6 with a Warner transmission.

5JC

That old Straight 6 was one of the better made engines. Lasted near forever and got good gas mileage.

5JC

Yeah but drop it in a Mustang it would get 25MPG.

Mason

Been driving around in my ’64 all morning. Not too much time now before I have to park it for the winter. 🙁

Used to use the hood from a 64 to skid firewood behind
a snowmobile. You could probably haul gravel in one they
are so rugged.

Mason

Worth a good bit of money if you’ve got an original steel one now. A lot of the 60 and 61 trucks have been “updated” with the later hood, so they’ve gotten more and more scarce.

Odie

Were you able to make it to the hot rod hundred?

Mason

No, that was back in May. I’ll try to remember to keep an eye out for it next year.

We do 50’s Weekend (my favorite weekend of the year) and Street Machine Summer Nats (we still call it Car Craft). We usually get to the Anoka weekly car show once a month. I try to get to North St Paul’s Friday night cruise once a month too, but this year we didn’t make it.

Italy and Spain are sending Navy ships to protect the Gaza fleet from alleged drone attacks dropping stun grenades and itching powder. They say this isn’t against Israel but there is a blockade so I don’t know what the plan is there.

The flotilla wants confrontation. They rejected a plan to have a third party distribute the aid. Details of all of this:

Toxic Deplorable Racist SAH Neanderthal

Third party? Like Ham-ass?
Yeah, that sounds like the one (and so far only) smart decision to come out of this flotilla debacle, rejecting the third party distribution.

5JC

No, the Catholic Church has a charity that has been distributing aid there. Details at above link.

Italy and Spain?
Can they fight, or are they trying to get an excuse to invoke Article 5 and get the US involved?

5JC

That isn’t even the funny part. They did so at the request of “France, Belgium and other European partners” because they had no assets available. For some reason the Americans weren’t mentioned. I imagine Rubio told them to piss up a rope. Had it been Biden, doubtless a carrier group would have been deployed to protect the little darlings.

Either way Article V is defensive in nature. If you go effing about with domestic policy and an internal blockade of another sovereign nation you get what you get. What you don’t get to do is to show you were attacked.

Part of the deal with the US stepping away from the table as World Police is everyone else has to figure their own shit out. They are finding that they are woefully unprepared which is a significant point of the policy.

BennSue

They also claimed they were bombed by Israel, saying their boat was set on fire. Too bad the video released later showed one of the persons on board had shot a flare into the boat setting it on fire instead.

SFC D

Itching powder. How juvenile. I love it!

CCO

The flotilla also had some crew/organizers quit when they learned that alphabet people (LBG, etc.) were included.

Slow Joe

Humm. Muslims don’t get along with teh ghey?
Who would have thought?

5JC

Certainly not with adults. There will be plenty of time to throw them off the roof later. For now back to the steerage.

Wikipedia says that talking about LBGTQSYSRLYWDFUK topics are taboo in Palestine. Wikipedia is lying again. Palestinians talk about how they hate gays all the time. Just don’t tell the gays that.

Never forget that the first rule of Palestinians is to bite the hand that feeds them. Rule two is you can never hate enough, be radical enough or kill enough to be happy.

That sounds exactly like a definition of insanity.

“the State Department sent ‘radio waves’ to his head, telling him to light a flare and board the aircraft,”

No way. Everyone knows the FCC is in charge of that.

SFC D

No no no, the State Department does not send radio waves into your head. That’s the CIA’s job. Skippy, you got any of those copper-foil hats left?

Toxic Deplorable Racist SAH Neande

Copper foil is too expensive.
Aluminum foil is cheaper, more affordable, and good enough for the RF to the head crowd.

26Limabeans

Knew a guy named Rod at Ft. Monmouth that wore an
aluminum hard hat. We called him “ground rod”.

SFC D

A good ground is important.

Old tanker

RE the helo flare guy. hey should give the dude a ride out over the ocean and then let him get back by himself starting at about 500 AGL. That should take care of any future trespass issues with him.

I find myself liking Matt Walsh more and more. He has a good take on strange days.

Imagine that we have a Democrat administration. Now imagine that a right wing radical shot and killed one of the most influential liberals in the country on live TV. Now imagine that thousands of other conservatives shamelessly celebrated the assassination and called for more of them. Now imagine that in the same week another right winger shot up a country club while shouting “MAGA” and another one shot up a news station and left behind a manifesto complaining about liberal bias in the media. Now imagine that a week after all of those attacks, a conservative sniper perched on a rooftop fired into a Planned Parenthood clinic, killing or injuring multiple people. And imagine that this Planned Parenthood attack was just the latest in a string of them stretching back several months.

Is there any doubt how the Democrats would respond?

The rest is over here:

I didn’t even know about the news station attack until I read the above. You would think ABC News would want to, you know, report news happening in the lobby of their TV station but nope. I guess the irony of being called conservative was too much for them.

Mason

Each one is an isolated incident. It’s also all MAGA’s fault. The victims in each case were asking for it.

Having ABBA flashbacks….My dad was a die hard ABBA fan. For 2 years in Florida, 3 years in Germany, and 3 years in California he played the same mixed tape in the car. Found out later, that on the way from California to Florida after he retired my brother threw the tape out the car window.

Odie

Get your brother an extra special birthday or Christmas gift. Maybe your mom appreciated it getting tossed as well.

Mike B

We heard that tape so many times, we knew where every album skip, or tape drop out was. It was sheer torture as I was your typical Metal Head.

In June 1988 somewhere along I-10 in Texas that mixed ABBA tape met its fate…..Was told that my brother, always the comedian, said did you see that? The tape just flew out the window on its own.

Some of those eject buttons had a very strong spring behind them.

Used to work for Automatic Radio testing 8 track players and
assembling the sales diplays for Radio Shack stores.
Tnx for the memories.

David, I strongly agree with your proposal for Hassan’s execution. I am sure there would be thousands of volunteers for the shooting squads.
