UNION, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – The Union Public Safety Department reports no charges will be filed after a deadly shooting in August was determined to have been in self-defense.

Police said they responded to South Pickney Street behind Buddy’s Corner Store around 7:45 p.m. on Aug. 18. They found a man lying in the grass.

Union County EMS transported the man to Union Medical Center, where he passed away. The Union County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Ieshaun Dunn, 28, of South Church Street, Union.

Officials said that the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division was contacted to assist with the investigation.

Officials said in September that the investigation concluded the shooting to have been in self-defense. The victim fired a gun at a group of individuals, and gunfire was returned in self-defense, which hit the victim.

HOUSTON — A man is dead in what police said was a shooting tied to domestic violence. They said a man shot and killed another man who was assaulting a woman at a home in northeast Houston, while two children were inside.

It happened on Hoffman Street near Bennington. Police said an ex-boyfriend was trying to get his belongings from his ex-girlfriend. According to Houston police, out of fear, a woman had another man there just in case her ex-boyfriend tried to hurt her when he came to get his stuff.

Her instinct turned out to be correct because investigators said her ex started beating her and then turned his attention to the male friend, too, when he tried to intervene.

Police said the friend then grabbed his gun from his truck and warned the woman’s ex to stop hitting her. When the ex didn’t stop, police said the friend shot and killed him.

“We do have footage of the incident and have already viewed it and seen it,” said Lt. Horelica with the Houston Police Department. “It was a pretty brutal assault on the female. There was another female and two children upstairs. Evidently, during the ordeal, the two children did not wake up.”

As for the woman’s friend, he was taken into police custody after being found on the city’s west side. Investigators said he’s 50 years old.

Houston police said the case would be referred to a grand jury to see if charges are warranted.
