Newest, Oldest Marine Sergeant

Legendary Marine Raider finally promoted to sergeant at 100
One of the original Marine Raiders, Frank S. Wright and was bayoneted in the stomach and shot in the chest during combat across the Pacific in World War II, including at Iwo Jima.

Frank S. Wright recently got what he described as a “big promotion.” When a reporter called to talk about it, he answered the phone with “Frank Wright, Sergeant, U.S. Marine Corps.”
Now 100 and more than 80 years after service in fierce combat as a corporal in World War II, Wright was a sergeant.
“I spent two-and-a-half years in the South Pacific and went through Guadalcanal, New Georgia, Guam, and Iwo Jima,” Wright told Task & Purpose this week. “And I was wounded twice. I have two Purple Hearts. That’s one of the reasons that they thought that I would be eligible for this, and I’ve had a lot of congratulatory letters and other things that have been given to me.”
The story of Wright’s service during World War II is epic. One of the original Marine Raiders, he survived being bayoneted in the stomach on Guam and was later shot in the chest and arm at Iwo Jima.
Still, for the past 80 years, Wright has wanted to complete one more milestone in his military career: being promoted to sergeant.
Last month, Wright got his wish when he became the “newest and oldest Sergeant of Marines,” at 100, according to an Aug. 31 post in a ceremony at Camp Pendleton, California.
Amazing story- Semper Fi Sergeant Wright.

Semper Fi you BADD (Bad Ass Devil Dog). I bet if a city youte, punk thug tried to accost him, the old brass balled badass still has just enough in him to try and fight back.
Or let the youngster know he picked the wrong old man.
A bit more on Frank and his service told back when he was only 98 years young.

Pushing a century, but still a bad ass!
That Greatest Generation ain’t no shit!
Almost as slow as Army clerk-typist promotions. When I was an E-6 a few months short of when I hit the E-7 list an E-5 moved into our stairwell who had been on the E-6 list longer than I had been an NCO, and he had been an NCO longer than I had been in the Army.
80 years… That is SLOW.
One Saturday morning, I got out of my car to join the other breakfast members in the restaurant and on the way in, the car had Marine Raider plate on it. I don’t remember if it said Unit after the word Raider. A number of years ago this happened. I wonder why the unit was disbanded in 1944. I know Carlsons Raiders were disbanded before the war was over due to I think the amount of men that were lost due to Malaria and being killed. I’m sure someone will respond due to my nappy poo time on the recliner. I Still haven’t bought the greatest, stupendous, boss, smartest gadget known to mankind,,, are you all ready for this, The Magic 8-Ball. See you later Alligator.
After a 2 hour nappy poo, I get up thinking today is Friday and start looking for the WOT. It’s still Thursday.
What stories he must have!!! I’m a history buff, narrow that down and WWII is my favorite time period. I think probably because my grandfather was a WWII veteran. I have read so much and have so many books on WWII, that I probably have references for every battle of that war. Both theaters. It would be awesome to just be in the same room and listen to him.
There is a program/project on YouTube that interviews WWII vets, so that the stories aren’t lost. I hope that they got to SGT Wright.
Fat Electrician is an interesting watch on you tube about different eras of military service.
Then they put him on the Duty NCO Roster for this weekend.
And they sent him right to work after he was relieved from duty. We had an asshole Msgt that I made him look REALLY bad in front of the platoon one day. Asshole hated me. But then he got forced out and spent his last months in being the piss test SNCOIC. Probly drank what was left in the bottles.
