Stolen Valor Russian Style

Russian war hero ‘the Executioner’ allegedly ordered troops to shoot him in massive payout scheme: report

Russian officer Konstantin Frolov allegedly helped orchestrate a $2.5M fraud scheme
By Bonny Chu

One of Russia’s most decorated battlefield heroes was unmasked as the alleged mastermind of a brazen fraud scheme in which elite soldiers allegedly shot themselves – and even their own commander – to collect lucrative combat injury payouts, according to local reports.

Investigators allege that Lt. Col. Konstantin Frolov – nicknamed “the Executioner” for his sniper skills – not only fabricated his heroic acts but also helped his troops siphon nearly $2.5 million in a sweeping military fraud scheme, according to the Russian newspaper Kommersant.

The outlet said a former brigade commander, Artem Gorodilov, was also implicated in the case.

At least 35 officers in Russia’s elite unit, the prestigious 83rd Separate Guards Air Assault Brigade, reportedly sat out of combat and collected almost $40,000 each, the outlet reported.

Frolov has been revered throughout President Vladimir Putin’s three-year war in Ukraine, boasting of surviving five minor and two serious wounds, Kommersant reported, adding that his alleged bravery earned him four “Orders of Courage” – one of Russia’s highest honors – along with two additional medals for valor.

Investigators now allege those wounds were staged. Frolov ultimately admitted he had ordered his soldiers to shoot him deliberately, ensuring bullets missed his vital organs, according to the Russian report.

The scandal erupted last summer when a whistleblower alerted authorities, Kommersant reported. Frolov was arrested in June 2024, followed by Gorodilov a month later, the outlet said, adding that both now face charges of fraud.

In addition, Frolov reportedly kept three captured pistols, a machine gun, magazines with ammunition, several mines and grenades, according to Kommersant. The colonel has been accused of bribery and illegal trafficking in weapons and ammunition, the outlet reported.

So Russia’s battlefield hero is just a Potemkin Village with added larceny. Not a great career move, Konstantin.

Did anyone ever get the FOIA on this Texan named
Claus Von Stauffenberg?

He claimed he is the grandson of
July 20, 1944 Operation Valkyrie Stauffenberg.

He STILL has photos up wearing
5 Purple Hearts and 5 Bronze Stars.

Ah, Claus von Stauffenberg, III…

Why didn’t he make E7, E8 or hit QMP?

With that much “cheese” on his side why didn’t he do better? Nobody “strongly encouraged” his ass to be an occifer (especially in a German “von” family, they sure would) either?

This dude has a LOT of Overseas Hashmarks! I knew some guys that were/are in the NG. They volunteered over and over, some of them being home for 2-3 months gone for another year. Paid of homes, weddings, purchased businesses. All kind of stuff! Does claim to be NG?

And how many years to be an E6? Nothing wrong with it and some MOSs don’t offer much upward mobility. Just curious about that. I mean, SSG Barns was an E6!

BennSue

Hey I liked being an E-6! All the perks with 1/4 of the responsibility! I was an E-4 Mafia Kingpin! (plus I decided to go to law school and made that a priority over ranking up.)

Triple threat

Army-Air Force Guy

In just looking at pics online of the original Von Stauffenberg, he sorta kinda looks like his ‘grandfather’ but I guess I’d need to see some geneoligical (sp?) documents to be sure.

Mike B

Thing is I can’t find anything that shows where any of the surviving Von Stauffenberg’s moved to the US.

Might mean I’m not looking hard enough, but it might also mean it’s because none did.

Russian stolen valor? So, those bastards??? I’m sorry. I’m just confused about whether or not I should care about stolen valor committed by those of a hostile, belligerent country. I mean, I’ll still regard those valor thieves as scum, but they’re not our scum, so…

Note the systematic corruption, in an “elite” unit.

Take it as intel on morale and capabilities. If verifiable, it speaks volumes why dinky little Ukraine had kicked Russian Ivan’s nuts up into his ears, repeatedly.

Russia’s decapitation strike should have rolled them in three days. Three weeks to overwhelm them the hard way.

Three freaking years with gains measured in yards? With piddly ass “support” in dribs and drabs? Ukraine against the Red freaking Army?

Humiliation.

The only way Russia wins this Charli Foxtrotski is if we lean on Ukraine enough to make them quit.

Russia shot their quiver dry. Poland could roll up the remainder in a month if they have the trucks and diesel to drive that far. Russia is desperate to avoid that becoming obvious.

We can also infer from a lack of China exploiting this, that China is not in good enough shape to do so. Which means they are unlikely to have the means to take Taiwan without Someone Else persuading them to roll over.

Things gonna get interesting if Trump knows it and is just playing Putin to squander whatever is left in Russia.

Very interesting, indeed.

In the initial invasion the Russian SOF had a few typical SOF missions such as seizing the Hostomel Airfield near Kiev. According to open source reports the airfield attack was an unmitigated disaster. They were defeated by a pickup team of National Guard, air force security guards and a nearby artillery unit.

Losing the airfield fight meant no fresh troops or resupply to push out and seize the capital. Seeing how badly the initial invasion went emboldened the Ukes which is half the reason they are still fighting today.

Putin isn’t really a soldier. The weird thing is after all this time he still hasn’t figured out where the Uke center of gravity is. Kind of like the British never figured it out during the Revolutionary War. So now they are fighting it Russian meat grinder style. Russian knows they can likely win that kind of war.

As bad as stolen valor is, these guys were hardcore enough to shoot each other.

Odie

I don’t need money or a medal that bad.

Slow Joe

Nah. People who shoot themselves or each other are not really hardcore because they are in control. They know where they are going to get shot.
The scary shit about firefights is when bullets are flying everywhere and you don’t know where you are going to get hit.

Amateur Historian

Exactly.

I bet the illustrious colonel’s military career will soon find itself in the round file and his physical position becomes horizontal, six feet below sea level. (MIA even).

11B-Mailclerk

He is a Desantnik. His exit, ahem, kinda suggests itself.

5JC

With a great deal of remorse he threw himself out of a window. I mean not yet, but soon. If he doesn’t then he will kill his entire family and then commit suicide.

Very interesting video about former SGM – now retired MSG John ‘Shrek’ McPhee. Most of us are probably somewhat aquatinted w/ him on YouTube. A long career in SOF w/ Ranger Batt, SF, and Delta. As a person of good character, John, apparently didn’t have his shit wired tight.

The DARK Truth of John “Shrek” McPhee

MarineDad61

Devtun,
McPhee is a Phony Gulf War Veteran, revealed at 12:30.

This alone is enough to piss off Gulf War Veterans,
and in combination with the other lies and deception,
more than enough to generate a VG/TAH article.

As to his career demotion and stripping of tabs,
boinking a high meds wifey in your command is always a bad idea.

Go ahead and deploy the News tab on the Fu of Google,
to see who he is boinking now.
McPhee is a blatant fame whore,
now in the gossip sheets with a bigger fame whore.

Can you say “maskirovka” ? I bet you can.

Slow Joe

Wait. That LTC was a sniper?
Why would an officer be a sniper?
Shouldn’t he be doing officer shit and working on Battalion-level OPORDs, training, deploying, and maneuvering his subordinate units? I would love to take a peek at his TOC (tactical operations center). I guarantee you he doesn’t even have one. No combined arms operations because the LTC is too busy shooting his sniper rifle.
This is exhibit 169 of why the Russian army sucks so much.

But by all means, let the Russians be Russians. I am sure they are very brave.

5JC

Ah, yes. So other countries have much lower recruiting standards (as well as pay and benefits) and don’t have a professional NCO corps or soldiers that can do much more than follow last order first.

Officers pretty much do everything, including sniper duty. I’ve definitely seen more than one LTC sniper in the Iraqi Army.
