Police, prosecutors disagree on charges for Renton, WA transit shooting suspects
By Jennifer Dowling
RENTON, Wash. – A man was shot five times at Renton’s transit center last week. Days later, prosecutors say they don’t plan to file any charges. Now, Renton’s police chief is speaking out, saying he’s frustrated with the decision.
Prosecutors say they can’t prove that the men didn’t act in self-defense. But, the police chief says he believes it was excessive force.
Video shows the moments leading up to the shooting at the Renton transit center.
In it, you can see a 52-year-old man approaching a woman, her boyfriend and brother with a PVC pipe in his hand. Then, he takes a swing at the woman, hitting her in the leg. Her boyfriend pulls a gun and at some point, the man drops the pipe and goes after him. The two begin tussling, falling to the ground and moving to the street between two buses. That’s when the woman’s brother pulls out a gun and ultimately shoots him in the chest, both thighs and knee.
“There were 10 different senior deputy prosecutors who looked at this, all the videos, frame by frame, and came to the same conclusion,” said Casey McNerthney with the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
Their conclusion is that self-defense can’t be disproven. The King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office released a memo explaining why they are not charging the men with assault, including that the man who was shot advanced first.
The memo states, “Without apparent provocation, (he) can be seen approaching the group who were standing near the buses and looking at their phones.
“(He) suddenly puts some of his bags down and, without warning, swings the pipe at (her)….striking (her) in the leg.”
Her resulting injury is pictured below.
“The first aggressor part, is a big part of that analysis,” said McNerthney.
The memo also states when the woman’s boyfriend pulls out a handgun, “audio confirms that no shot was fired.”
However, it states the man, “with the pipe still in his hand, continues his attack”. The memo highlights that moment below.
According to the memo, the fighting is only stopped after the woman’s brother first tries to hit the man with a gun in his possession, then when that doesn’t work, opens fire.
“When the gun was drawn, it looks like the person who was shot didn’t stop and still went hands on,” said McNerthney.
However, the Renton Police Chief says the video tells a different story.
“In no way, looking at the video, do we feel that it was reasonable or justified that the subjects used lethal force in that encounter,” said Jon Schuldt, Renton Police Chief. “I think we are very disappointed in the King County Prosector’s Office decision not to file assault charges on the suspects in the case that happened at our transit center last Friday where a couple of the individuals shot rounds at one of our community members.”
About the initial swing at the woman, the chief says it was a “tap”.

Renton is the armpit of Seattle where the Green River Killer roamed free. The local Po-Po’s attitude towards self-protection speaks for itself.

I’m with the prosecutors (for once) on this. Although their language sounds weasel worded, “can’t say that they didn’t”. Huh? Just say it in plain language, “they acted in self defense”. Dismiss all charges, with prejudice and be done with it. Lawyers. Can’t live with ’em……and can’t live with ’em.
As for the chief, it’s people like him, in positions of power, with attitudes like that, that cause ordinary citizens to distrust the po-po. Despicable motherfu**er. I’m thinking that he has the attitude of “only elites should have guns to defend themselves”. I hope he’s “tapped” by some pipe wielding drugged up homeless “community member” and brought up on charges when he defends himself.
Fuckit
Elsewhere I read that Mt Rainer is having a rash of earthquakes and could erupt.
While I hope the good people of Seattle are spared, it might be precautionary to adjust one’s attitude toward life in light of the potential of doom hanging over them like the sword of Damocles.

Don’t confuse a Chief of Police with real Cops. A Chief is an appointed position, often with significant politicking involved. He / She also knows that the job depends on keeping the political machine happy. Liberal govt., you are going to have at least as equally liberal chief. Most are chosen from outside their department.
I give as an example the former Chief of the Tucson PD. He was chosen by an all dem council and mayor because he was the last person left when all the others bailed after meeting the said council and mayor, also because he was gay. In his previous position in cali he had been photographed participating in a BLM protest, with a BLM sign in Uniform on duty. He was the second gay chief the clowncil hired and the first, though she rose through the ranks, was also a disaster to the rank and file.
Later biden chose him as the head of Border Patrol where he did such a pathetic job that even biden fired him shortly after.
But the chief often sets the tone for the rest of the LEO force. (S)He sets and enforces policy, which the rest follow (or they get fired). Some LEOs go along willingly with these elitist LibTard policies.
The fish rots from the head down.
County Sheriff Tim (elected not appointed) and his deputies frequented the same range where I was an RSO. They never even blinked at my evil, illegal-in-Maryland Bushy M4orgery.
Was the shooter using a .380 or something a bit more compelling?
PVC pipe is not exactly the most frightful resource for inflicting grievous injury. Could be improvised into a spear with a decent bevel on the end.
Not a good substitute for a lik’n stick.
The most compelling thing about this self defense, is the attacker is dead. Video shows confrontation and no disputing his actions. A surviving attacker could make up a plausible denial and sue the defender, as well as the victim he attacked. Which I’m sure the liberal chief of police would pursue. Self defense is not a right in liberal towns, these people are lucky they got a DA who’s following the law.
