The White House says President Trump has backed off renaming Veteran’s Day to “Victory Day for World War I” . While technically, at least historically speaking, he was correct – the holiday started out as Armistice Day for the cease-fire ending at the 11th minute of the 11th hour on November 11, 1918 – the option of renaming it was notably dumb. May be his proposed renaming of VE day complicated it – it was not the end of WWII as he claimed, and thinking that we did all the heavy lifting in Europe as some think is to ignore history.

The White House will also go with a victory proclamation rather than a name change — at least in the U.S. — for V-E Day, or Victory in Europe Day, which is observed every May 8 in Europe and May 9 in Russia to mark Nazi Germany’s surrender to the allies in World War II.

“We are not renaming Veterans Day,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told ABC News on Friday. “It will just be an additional proclamation that goes out on that day.”Military.com

How about we call it  VE Day and leave Veteran’s Day alone?

A veteran’s group, Veterans on Patrol, is making the news.

The group Veterans on Patrol, which the Southern Poverty Law Center defines as an anti-government militia organization, views the NWS’ network of Doppler radars as “weather weapons,” according to an internal NOAA email sent Monday and seen by CNN.

Well, they got noticed by the SPLC – geez, any group of conservatives more than three strong does that! – but weather radar?

“This group is advocating for anyone and everyone to join them in conducting penetration drills on NEXRAD sites to identify weaknesses which can be used to ultimately destroy the sites,” the email stated, using an acronym for the weather radar network.

“The group referred to the NEXRAD system towers as ‘weather weapons,’ and claimed there were no laws preventing American citizens from destroying the ‘weapons,’” the email states.

The NOAA emails indicate the FBI and other law enforcement authorities are aware of the militia-style group’s activities and are tracking them, and have issued bulletins about the NEXRAD threat. CNN

I guess they think the round antennas look like giant marbles, and since they sound like they lost theirs…

Brit counter-terrorism has been busy – they have arrested 7 (mostly peaceful Iranian immigrants) for terrorism charges.

British counterterrorism police officers arrested four Iranian men over an alleged plot to attack an unspecified target, and three others over an undefined national security threat, London’s Metropolitan Police said Sunday. The government called the operations the biggest “counter-state threat and counterterrorism” in years.

The Met, as London’s police force is often known, said five men between the ages of 29 and 46 were detained Saturday in various parts of England under the Terrorism Act on suspicion of preparing “a terrorist act.”

All the suspects were being questioned at police stations and had not been charged as of Monday morning. Police said they were searching several properties in London, the Manchester area in northwest England, and Swindon in western England.

MI5 chief Ken McCallum said in October that his agents and police had tackled 20 “potentially lethal” plots backed by Iran since 2022, most aimed at Iranians in the U.K. who oppose the country’s authorities.CBS News

Whaddya mean, wrong Blackhawk?

The Army is pausing helicopter flights near Reagan Airport again after a Blackhawk flight caused two commercial airliners to abort landings. Need to read the details on this one!

Thursday’s close call involved a Delta Air Lines Airbus A319 and a Republic Airways Embraer E170, according to the National Transportation Safety Board.

They were instructed by air traffic control to “perform go-arounds” because of a “priority air transport” helicopter, according to an emailed statement from the Federal Aviation Administration.

So far, so bad – sounds like some general wanted a quicker flight nd got sideways with the ATC, right?

The Army said after the latest incident that the UH-60 Blackhawk was following published FAA flight routes and air traffic control from Reagan airport when it was “directed by Pentagon Air Traffic Control to conduct a ‘go-around,’ overflying the Pentagon helipad in accordance with approved flight procedures.Military.com II

So the Army chopper was obeying the rules.. but caused two aborted landings. Sounds like the FAA and ATC should be doing the ‘splainin’, doesn’t it?

Where have I heard of this process of the president saying something dumb and the press secretary walking it back a few days later? Oh wait, every single day from January 2021 to January 2025.

Well at least it isn’t every day anymore. Maybe they get settled down and start engaging the brain before talking? Biden couldn’t do that because he had lost his mind years ago and had no idea what he was saying.

Slow Joe

I do not always fly in airplanes, but when I do, I am always on the lookout for DEI people in critical positions for which they are not qualified.
If I were landing on an airport and I see an Army helicopter anywhere near my route, I would pull the hell out.
You never know when a menstruating DEI hire will decide to ignore regulations and fly 200m higher into the flight path of commercial aircraft.

MIRanger

I hope you are being facetious Slow Joe. The Army has had female pilots for many years. That particular pilots sexual proclivities don’t seem to effect their flying abilities. My personal opinion is that “Gender Identity” is more of a excuse for a mental condition, so it may effect their flying ability.
I think she was just a crappy pilot, based on what has come out so far. Not having been assigned to aviation units but having some in my higher HQ, what I don’t understand is how much the Check pilot can do when the pilot is screwing up?

Sounded like they, were told to avoid the plane, and had asked to go visual but were tracking the wrong plane…both of them.

Don’t know about all that but they had another close call at National and the Pentagon earlier this week. They really need to fix the light at that intersection or they are going to get another wreck.

The Veterans on Patrol organization, which likely contains no veterans as members, other than DOJ infiltrators, is definitely a nutty conspiracy theory club. They go around trying to stop pro illegal immigration groups from supporting illegal immigration with illegal acts. The work has been kind of slow as of late so they have moved on to other topics.
