Pope Francis passed away on Easter Monday
Pope Francis, 266th pope of the Roman Catholic Church, passed away Monday morning at the age of 88. He was the first Latin American pontiff. His last public appearance was on Easter Sunday. He also met with Vice President JD Vance that day.
From AP News:
Pope Francis, history’s first Latin American pontiff who charmed the world with his humble style and concern for the poor but alienated conservatives with critiques of capitalism and climate change, died Monday. He was 88.
Bells tolled in church towers across Rome after the announcement, which was read out by Cardinal Kevin Farrell from the chapel of the Domus Santa Marta, where Francis lived.
“At 7:35 this morning, the Bishop of Rome, Francis, returned to the home of the Father. His entire life was dedicated to the service of the Lord and of his Church,” said Farrell, the Vatican camerlengo, who takes charge after a pontiff’s death.
Francis, who suffered from chronic lung disease and had part of one lung removed as a young man, was admitted to Gemelli hospital on Feb. 14, 2025, for a respiratory crisis that developed into double pneumonia. He spent 38 days there, the longest hospitalization of his 12-year papacy.
He made his last public appearance on Easter Sunday — a day before his death — to bless thousands of people in St. Peter’s Square, drawing wild cheers and applause. Beforehand, he met briefly with U.S. Vice President JD Vance.

Good man. Didn’t care much for his politics but his heart was in the right place.
Currently the ambassador to the Vatican is Callista Gingrich.
I will defer judgement of him…and his politics…to The Ultimate Judge. I didn’t care much for his politics either.
Yup.
In keeping with the highest of traditions of larceny…consider this meme borrowed with extreme prejudice
I’m stealing it. Not even gonna offer an excuse.
That’s the best Easter message I’ve ever read. Probably historically accurate too.
This…
The article does not mention the fact that Pope Francis was the first Jesuit to ever be elected pope.
Hopefully we get a traditionalist pope, or at least one who is not an anti-traditionalist, who will foster again the Vetus Ordo aka “Traditional Latin Mass”; or at least not prosecute us and create “reservations” for trads.
I’ll settle for a stodgy moralist who thinks “woke”-sters are suspect and that we should all go to confession more often.
It’s a Dyngus Day miracle, and I’m hoping Cardinal Sarah wins the Fisherman’s Ring.
He’s my top choice as well. Cardinal Zen would have been good too if he wasn’t retired.
Maybe the next Pope could be Catholic and follow the Bible?
That’d be nice!
be a radical switch from the last few years…
Definitely.
How long before reports start circulating that VP Vance killed him on Trump’s orders. Vance was one of the last to see him alive.
Vance must have scared the life out of him…
Facts, facts.
Ending DEI programs everywhere in the planet.
* cough cough *
That WAS dark!!!!!! Wow
I’m actually laughing aloud! Now I’ll have to go to confession.
I guess he’s using a MyPillow?
And then I have to post this cause I’ve been looking for it all day. I lost it in social media and then I just regained it.
Let the conspiracy theories begin!!!
Annndddd we all need new hats now…
OH LARS!!!!

I’m sending this to Fr. Z right away!
