Burglary suspect killed, deputy hurt in Southern California foot pursuit
Lily Dallow
A vehicle burglary suspect was killed and a deputy was injured after a foot pursuit turned lethal in Southern California. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said it was at 8:03 p.m. on Friday when a resident called in, reporting that someone was actively burglarizing his vehicle outside his home in the 100 block of Walnut Street.
When the victim caught the suspect inside his vehicle, according to the report, the suspect took off – fleeing on foot.
Two deputies in Needles responded to the call and found the suspect, later identified as Michael Ray Richard II, 39, of Phoenix, Ariz., walking in the area.
As the deputies began detaining Richard, he pulled away and ran – initiating the foot pursuit.
“Richard jumped over walls and returned back to the patrol units, where he retrieved a bag he had been carrying at the time of his detainment,” detailed the department in a release.
When the deputies caught up with Richard, they realized he was armed with a handgun.
“Richard struggled with the deputies and fired the gun,” explained SBSD. “A lethal force encounter occurred, and Richard was struck by gunfire.”

Bystander’s Armed Intervention Stops Stabbing Attack at New Hampshire McDonald’s
by Brian Armstrong
NASHUA, NH – A bystander with a firearm intervened during a violent altercation involving a knife at a McDonald’s in Nashua, New Hampshire. On Tuesday night, a fight broke out between two groups who police believe knew each other, and it quickly escalated when 22-year-old Jose Vasquez repeatedly stabbed a 32-year-old man multiple times in the face and abdomen.
Felix Marengo, a bystander eating in his car, witnessed the attack and intervened. He told WMUR reporter Maria Wilson, “A guy started getting stabbed. I got out of my car and took my handgun out. As soon as they saw that, the stabber started running behind Wendy.”
Vasquez surrendered to Nashua police the following day, and he was charged with first-degree assault. Vasquez’s attorney said the victim was the initial aggressor, so it will be interesting to see what the final charges will be.
If the person who got stabbed was the initial aggressor, there is a possibility the judge could determine Vasquez acted in self-defense.

The stabbee might have initiated the conflict but did he raise the fight to a deadly weapon level thereby justifying the use of a knife by the stabber?
That is going to be the question the atty for the stabber is going to have to settle in court.
I have been in more than one situation where each person in a conflict wanted the other guy arrested and stated they were willing to testify in court. I arrested both of them and their arrest was an invitation to the criminal justice system of conflict resolution. Funny thing is, I never once had to go to court on these situations, they found a way to settle prior to trial, by dropping the charges against each other.
