HOUSTON — A homeowner shot an intruder who was assaulting him late last night in northeast Houston, according to police.Police said that the intruder was a man who used to live in the home.
It happened on Jay Street, which is near Homestead north of the 610 Loop. Police got the call just after 11:30 p.m.
When they arrived at the home, police found a man in his 30s who they said broke in. They said the man had assaulted the homeowner, a man they said was nearly 70 years old. That homeowner fought back.
“The homeowner fired multiple shots at the individual who forced himself in his home striking him multiple times,” said Lt. Horelica with the Houston Police Department. “He was transported to a local area hospital by the Houston Fire Department.”
At this point, police are not yet calling the intruder a suspect.
“I’m not going to call either one of them a suspect or a victim,” Lt. Horelica said. “The male that was shot is in his 30s. The male that did the shooting is close to 70.
Right now, we don’t know if there is any relation between the two men or if they know each other. We’ll follow this story and post any new developments as we get them.

Well Ell-Tee, I’d go with the recently ventilated person who broke into the home as a suspect. Mighty fine police work and KHOU is there!
Warren woman fatally shoots ex-boyfriend who broke in, chased her; Police say there was ‘extensive’ domestic violence history
WARREN (WWJ) — A man has died after being shot by a woman whose house he broke into in what Warren police officials say was a domestic violence incident.
It all unfolded around 4:20 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 4, when police were called to a woman’s home on Bolam Street, near 10 Mile and Groesbeck, regarding a shooting.
Police officials say a 29-year-old man had been shot in the abdomen and fled the scene. He was found on a nearby street and rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators learned the man had been shot by the 33-year-old woman who lived at the home. She was taken into custody at the scene without incident.
Authorities say the woman admitted to shooting him and told investigators the two had “dated on and off” for a while.
Prior to the shooting, police learned the man had forced his way into her home and chased her, before she fired one shot at him.
Investigators have confirmed “an extensive domestic violence history at the residence” between the two, but no specifics were provided.

An extensive history of domestic violence calls, and they’re pussyfooting around who’s to blame?
I’ll take “police and court incompetence” for $500, Alex.
A guy in his 30s who breaks into a home of a man in his 70s sure doesn’t sound like a normal relationship. Harris County, so no telling how the DA is gonna read this, but in Texas the homeowner should have a slam-dunk defense.
The Galil… I don’t think I had a chance to buy one at the time, but back during the highfalutin days of the Assault Weapons Ban, I was known to buy a few “assault weapons” from private sellers, in conditions I wouldn’t attempt in today’s world. One guy had an HK91, Daewoo, and Valmet in his trunk. I bought the HK (and wish I hadn’t in hindsight). Of course, most of these were being built on parts kits by the like of Century Arms and such at the time. So, my HK91 was a decent shooter, while the FN-FAL built on an IMBEL receiver I bought not long after was excellent (and I wish I still had that one).
I want another Kalashnikov-based rifle at some point, but damned if my SKS Sporter and Yugo 59/66 don’t fit the 7.62×39 bill, and my M&P-15 and AR-556 MPR don’t fit the “assault rifle” bill. Anyway, guns are on my mind, I’ll go back to watching the latest Forgotten Weapons video:
