Sheriff’s Office: No charges in fatal shooting after home invasion in Sweetwater
by: Hope McAlee
SWEETWATER, Tenn. (WATE) — The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office has shared there will be no charges filed after a home invasion resulted in a fatal shooting on Thursday.Sheriff Tommy Jones originally shared that deputies were dispatched to the invasion that happened at a home on Brunner Road in Sweetwater early Thursday morning.
In a release on Friday, the sheriff’s office said the incident happened around 6:30 a.m. Thursday. Deputies had been dispatched to a home on Ogle Road earlier that morning in reference to a man having a “mental status change.” The man’s family previously told deputies they were concerned because he had previously entered random houses.
At approximately 6:38 p.m., the sheriff’s office said deputies were then dispatched to the home on Brunner Road because of a reported home invasion. The homeowner had been woken up by his dogs barking and lights being on inside of the home. When the homeowner went to investigate, the he found the unknown man and escorted him outside at gun point while waiting for law enforcement to arrive, the sheriff’s office explained.
While they were waiting, MCSO said the man shoved the homeowner down and re-entered the home, locking the homeowner out. Because there were other people in the home who were being placed in danger, the homeowner discharged his firearm, striking the man, the sheriff’s office said.

Mental Status Change? Thanks again, Gun Bunny.

Chicago…
Oops. Wrong house.
PETDRSAHN,
The moment I saw your comment,
I immediately thought of Mr. T in this scene from the movie DC Cab.
Gotta wonder about the Tennessee dude’s dementia. (and that’s what it is. not “mental status change”. what DildoCrat came up with that?)
Onset of dementia/Alzheimer?
Alcohol/drug abuse?
Rx drugs?
I would say that the man’s family is more at fault here. They knew what was going on. They’d even notified the police. And yet Mr Dementia was on the loose. (and yet I can’t totally fault the family. I had a mentally handicapped brother once. You know how difficult it is to keep track 24/7/365?)
Nutjobs gonna nutjob, Tox. And getting true help for people that do have true mental issues is near ’bout downright impossible these days since they’ve closed down so many state run nut houses. You are correct, too, in that the family should push harder to get the help the person needs. Sadly, you can’t help those that don’t want to be helped.
BZ to Ms Sweet Home Chitcongo Thang. Fight back.
The Constitution was designed to limit the grubermint…NOT to limit the rights of We, The People.
Isn’t a 10mm the FIRST (ht2 BennSue) tool that gets lost? I guess if one is going bear hunting it may be nice to have and auto loading hand cannon, but since one can buy two (2) of His Holy Caliber in the same platform for the same price… YMMV
Mental health cases are tough.
It is impossible for the family to care for them 24/7/365 and often they are at a loss of what to do.
The laws “protecting” the mentally ill from involuntary confinement exacerbate the problems.
Deal with a mental neighbor right now. I feel for him – it’s partly inherited (his father was a mental case too) partly drugs (and his father was a druggie/convict as well) and entirely scary.
No easy answers.
Luvz a Sig P320 – ‘tho I can’t afford the Legion version.
Difficult to conceal, but a great EDC regardless because of it’s accuracy and reliability.
Not a feel good.
