Flagstock

So much crappy news…so many people I would love to see exit (wait till tomorrow’s column – obviously Kamala told Joe “hold my beer” on hiring.) But occasionally feelg-good comes over that doesn’t involve some POS getting lead poisoning rapidly.

Might remember that back in April, like at many other universities, U. of North Carolina had student protests against Israel, for the Palestinians, and for all I know in favor of hunchbacked lesbian gopher screwing. Who can keep up… But the usual flag desecration didn’t quite turn out like at most schools.

Back in May, activists on campus tried twice to replace the American flag on Chapel Hill’s quad with a Palestinian flag, but when they began taking it down the flagstaff for the second time, a group of students stepped in to prevent Old Glory from touching the ground.

A student photographer captured the moment that went viral on social media and made national headlines as similar protests occurred on college campuses throughout the country.

After the photo caught the country’s attention, a GoFundMe page created by a man named John Noonan, who initially started the fundraiser to buy “a few kegs” for the students and give his friends a good laugh, ended up raising more than $500,000 to throw the students a “rager.”

Enter John Rich, as in “Big & Rich” – you know, “save a horse, ride a raghead cowboy”Rich thought the kids deserved a bit more. Monday it came to pass.

Rich wanted to host a “protest to support patriotism” — hence the name “Flagstock” — and “make sure students and people in general feel it’s OK to be patriotic,” Oswald told reporters on Monday when asked about the name of the concert.

Several hundred Chapel Hill students attended the music event, which included performances from Big & Rich, Lee Greenwood, Aaron Lewis and John Ondrasik, a.k.a. Five for Fighting — less than the anticipated 2,000 students organizers expected earlier in the week. Roman Rene Ramirez of Sublime also made a surprise appearance.

Several hundred patriotic kids? Nowadays, that’s a bumper crop, not a disappointment. Good on all who performed or attended.

“The event was a huge success! As of now, we’re beyond 700k views, and people all around America are commenting on social media as to how much they loved Flagstock,” Rich said in a statement to Fox News Digital on Tuesday, referencing a live-stream of the event online. “The artists all brought their A-game, and it was a show fit for a stadium!”

After the show, Rich “met many of the students, and they were blown away with the whole thing,” he said. “They couldn’t believe we actually followed through on this event, and executed it at such a high level. Some students were even teary-eyed as they spoke with us. The whole thing was very positive, powerful and moving in many ways.”

“My question for you is this: Do you still love America?” Rich asked students in the crowd during his performance on Monday at the local American Legion in Chapel Hill.

The crowd responded by chanting, “USA! USA! USA!”  Fox NewsFox News II

Most of the original kids were fraternity members. Incredibly, the articles mention that many of the fraternities and sororities discouraged attendance.

Matthew Broderick, a senior and a journalism major, told Fox News Digital that the “vibes on campus have been very split” in the lead-up to Flagstock.

“There’s a lot of people who are in huge favor of this. They love this. And then there’s a lot of people who think this is a really bad idea,” Broderick said. “I mean, I think some fraternities and sororities have been telling the people … ‘Hey, don’t come to this. We think it’s a bad look.’ And then some have been like, ‘Hey, please go to this is. It’s a really good look. It’s good for our fraternity and our sorority.’ … But I don’t think there’s a consensus about this.”

Bueller? Bueller? Couldn’t resist.

I guess kids going to college now have a better idea of what fraternities/sororities they should seek to join.

“You shouldn’t go to that beer fueled, patriotic event with well known bands/entertainers spearheading it…”

((Furiously scribbles down event date/time and which fraternity is going..))

Deckie you nailed it. These are the kids who were taught early on the real sin was to call out the bully and hold them responsible, ignoring when not admonishing the target for being bullied.

This is the consequence of “mutual combatant” policies in schools. It doesn’t matter how many times the bully taunts you, follows you around (in school, on social media, etc.), body-checks you in the halls – accidentally, of course. It doesn’t matter how many times you or your parents complain to the school, nothing will be done to protect you or to punish the bully. Schools hold “healing circles” and “peace circles” and teach the bully how their behavior is not nice, is negatively impacting another, because of course once they understand that, they’ll stop.

Despite a couple decades of proof these interventions never work, they persist. If you decide you’ve had enough and push back, or worse, knock out a few teeth or lights, you’re the one in trouble. Many here have commented that kids today are weak, they need to toughen up and stand up for themselves, well, this is why they don’t.

Not only will they be suspended, but because their reaction is rage-fueled, they are seen as “the problem”. The bully who induced the rage without consequence, and with apparent support and protection from the teachers, administrators, and boards of education, is then recast as the victim.

People want to know how kids these days become so despondent, so desperately depressed, that at 11 years old they take their own lives …

My old man knocked some teeth down a neighborhood bully’s throat in the 50s. Bully forever avoided him after that. And surprise! He didn’t thirst for more blood afterward… he recovered and reinforced his dignity and pride and went on with his life.

Yup, I picked on the wrong kid maybe when I was around 9 or 10 and I got judo throw and landed on my back. All the kids were laughing at me and I got up and shook the kids hand. Friends after that. Tried looking him up after I got the PC in 2009 and from the Laurelton Queens NYC Website, I called a couple of guys about the fight but no results. around 1954 or 1955.

Kid in my Jr High School used to grab me by my hair, or pull on the “tail” I had, and would call me “Hippie”, or “Goddamn HIPPIE!” He did that until I spun around one day and nearly put a pen through both of his cheeks.
He tried to make it look like he wasn’t scared, and tried to make fun of the move…but he never bothered me again.

When striking back against a bully nowadays, need to pick the proper time and place, have a provable alibi, and no (hostile) witnesses, therefore culpable deniability.

Welp, that’s a start. The kids that attended musta had some decent home training. The school systems sure aren’t teaching anyone to love America.

These people that want to support the Palis/Ham Ass? I believe that Ham Ass is recruiting as we speak. The position comes with a nice vest. Ham Ass will also give them lessons on jumping from buildings.

If a fraternity / sorority thinks being proud of their country is a “bad look”, perhaps they should relocate to a country where they think it looks good. The door out is always open kiddies, don’t let it hit you in the ass on the way out.

This isn’t East Berlin. There’s no wall to keep them in and nobody is going to shoot them if they try to leave.

Remember when school supplies were pencils, paper, maybe some glue?

My school still had the ink wells on the desks but ball point pens were in. We were taught the ABC’s and did the flag pledge every morning in the classroom. started Kindergarden in 1951.

Deckie

I remember the Pledge every morning. Wonder if my high school still does it…

Why not call and ask the principal? Inquiring minds and all…?

Kindergarten was great. During nap time I would crawl under the teachers desk and look up her dress.
The milk and cookies were pretty good too.

I remember the glue as being either Elmer’s or that stuff that you had to dish out with the built in applicator.
I preferred the applicator stuff….is was more filling, and didn’t give me the runs later.
