Came on to read all the morning good stuff and find my scheduled column didn’t drop….damn. Better late than never!

Remember the Navy ship commander who was famously photographed on his fantail firing an M-4 with the scope rear mounted forward?

The image brought the Navy considerable ridicule on social media. The San Diego Union-Tribune reported that Cameron Yaste, commanding officer of the destroyer USS John McCain, was removed on Friday.

The Navy said Yaste was relieved of duty “due to a loss of confidence in his ability to command the guided-missile destroyer” that’s currently deployed in the Gulf of Oman. The statement didn’t elaborate about why Yaste was replaced.

In April, a photo posted on the Navy’s social media showed Yaste in a firing stance gripping the rifle with a backward scope.  AP

It’s  not clear whether the photo has anything to do with his relief – one hopes not. Did it look silly? Yep…but something tells me Navy commanders’ personal sidearms are if anything a pistol, not an M-4. One suspects a scenario in which he looked through the scope, said “hey, this ain’t right” and someone said “it’ll only take a few minutes to fix, coming right up” and it quickly turned to “just give me the damn thing, I don’t have time to jerk around”.  If the Navy relieved him because they ‘lost face’ or some such, he’s better off somewhere else. And we are in trouble.

Next up, Kamala Harris is being mocked (what a shock) for adopting different accents when speaking to different audiences.

Vice President Kamala Harris raised eyebrows during her Labor Day rally in Detroit, Michigan, unveiling what critics call a new “accent.”

“You better thank a union member for the five-day work week,” Harris told the crowd with a noticeable shift in her dialect. “You better thank a union member for sick leave. You better thank a union member for paid leave. You better thank a union member for vacation time.”

The Trump campaign drew attention to her “cringe” accent in another clip where Harris tells a rallygoer “Let’s just get through the next 64 days, how about that!?” before letting out a laugh.

Other X users compared Harris’ accent to the voice of iconic Looney Tunes character Foghorn Leghorn.

“What did I just watch… what’s with this new accent?”, Libs of TikTok reacted. “The fakeness and cringe here is off the charts.”

In July, Harris was slammed for using a fake Southern accent while speaking at a rally in Atlanta. During her 2021 overseas trip to France, critics claimed Harris used a “French accent” while touring a COVID lab.  Fox News

Is this similar to speaking in tongues? Is she a linguist?
