Would-be robber ID’d after being shot and killed during botched holdup in Glendale

GLENDALE, Calif. (CNS) — A 37-year-old man who police identified as a would-be robber of two victims in Glendale was identified Tuesday.

He was identified by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner’s office as Edward Mazon.

Officers responded to the 200 block of East Dryden Street around 10:40 p.m. Sunday and found a man in the middle of the road with a single gunshot wound, according to the Glendale Police Department.

Mazon was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to police, investigators determined that Mazon — who was carrying a loaded weapon — had approached two people in a white SUV and tried to rob them. Police said the driver of the SUV apparently shot Mazon, then drove away.

USSS, take notes. Shame the victims had pressing business elsewhere- they could give some pointers.

Suspect #2 – fled the scene before officers’ arrival.

Thanks, Gun Bunny.

I don’t think we need more gun control laws.

What is this continued fascination with trying to “determine the motive” of a crime? WHO CARES!? Just accept the fact that the crime (whatever it is) happened, and drive on from there.
Whether it be robbery, rape, a drug deal, poison, random, pre-meditated, spontaneous, whatever, the crime happened. Don’t dig into the can of worms of the criminal’s mind. Punish him (or her) as appropriate for their actions, not their motivations.

Single shot DRT and then scoot? Sounds appropriate to me, Tox. Case closed.

Bar shooter had his last call. And his cohort got called away.

Gun control is putting your round on the target…even if you only can shoot one round at a time. No indication in the linky and no time to dig deep, but I’d make book that the Limited Edition purdy boom stick is gonna be rather spendy.

Motive determines the level of prosecution in many crimes. Assuming the criminal is not DRT. Knowing the motive also helps the defender if it is a self defense situation.

And whether to expect a retaliatory response from gang/family members.

“Root Cause, always look for the root cause.” The Captain told us to always look for the root cause when counselling subordinates. He said it would prevent reoccurrence of the behavior. He later claimed he was correct since fewer counsellings had occurred and, therefore, the troops were behaving. Wrong, some of my fellows felt unqualified to act as wanna-be psychologists and just yelled at the troops or decided to look the other way and be done with it.

To me, it’s the same way with criminals, let the Departments of Correction handle the root causes.

Looks like the people in the SUV have taken to heart The Four Esses, the 4th being “Shut Up”. And the best way to Shut Up is to not be there when the Po-po arrive after the fact.
I hope the SUV and people are never found, never IDed, never “caught”, and continue to live full and productive lives.
As for the would-be ‘jacker, well, he FAFO, and will be paying the price for his actions for eternity. Was it worth it, dumbass? Oh……wait……..nebber mind.

Doesn’t seem like the robbery was “botched” to me. Seems like it turned out exactly like it should every time a robbery is attempted.

Beautiful rifle.
Take out the assailants at a distance with style.

Further research shows Sotomayor’s guards are US Marshals, not USSS.
