The PTSD foregone conclusion
One of our readers, Jerry, sends along a link to an ABC article about Post Tramatic Stress Disorder;
Now, I’m all in favor of anything that puts “the spotlight” on PTSD in our military community, but there’s absolutely no evidence that the Fort Hood incident had anything to do with PTSD, but ABC is bound and determine to make it a foregone conclusion in the discussion;
In the wake of the shooting rampage at Fort Hood, Texas, Nov. 5, that left 13 people dead, allegedly at the hands of a fellow soldier, Army Maj. Nidal Hasan, soldiers who struggle with stress like Swain, have come back into the spotlight.
I cannot understand why it’s so hard to say the words that Hasan is another jihadist, or that Hasan is another disgruntled employee, or that Hasan wasn’t wired correctly. There is mounting evidence that he was influenced in this endeavor by his culture and there is absolutely no evidence he suffered from PTSD.
My guess is that the media has decided that Hasan suffered from PTSD because they still blame it on Bush, and it avoids the glaring fact that all of this crap about our fear of racial profiling is absolutely wrong-headed.

The article is typical of ABC’s increasingly sloppy reporting. It’s supposed to be about suicides, but doesn’t provide any cause and effect relationships between PTSD and suicides. Then they segue into how PTSD may or may not have affected Hasan. Of course we know now that he’s never actually deployed any where so it must be the Pre-PTSD angle they are going for.
I’m happy to see the focus on evidence as opposed to drawing conclusions from things like last names.
This attack had nothing to do with PTSD. It was entirely the result of a mind polluted by religious fanaticism.
The MSM won’t say that this was a terror attack because that would mean admitting that this wasn’t Bush’s fault.

Asked, and answered.
When PC is the de facto law of the land – supplanting The Constitution – this what we must deal with. It ain’t easy.
Several folks have written essays/articles about political correctness that are more than just academically of interest.
Paranoid aside: One of the more interesting articles suggests that the PC concept originated with the communists, etc. And was a necessary precursor to where our country is just now. If I can find it again I’ll drop you an email.
But… PTSD IS simply the (PC) victimized ailment du jour.
Like many mental diagnosis things it gets so diluted as to actually HURT those who suffer from the real deal.
There’s a mini case history for those who care to look. How many decades have VN vets been painted as defective?
Apologies for the rant.
Nice post over at Blackfive (which many of you have most likely seen) regarding freedom of speech in the military if you’re Muslim vs. if you actually have PTSD. Most of it links to a post at Mudville Gazette but a read that makes you shake your head, and then get really pissed off……
PTSD?. . . .the MSM wants to find out about PTSD? They can study PTSD all they want if they come within my reach. I’LL give them PTSD until they can’t stand it any more — which, being the softy SocLib lefties they are, shouldn’t be long. Then they can understand the difference between soldiers who have been out at the front overseas, and “Maj” Ass-han.
PTSD, my left testicle. . . .
If I had a left testicle, I’d be sharing it with you, B Woodman.
I cannot find any other reason beyond that of a lack of respect, a lack of self-acknowledgment, and a complete lack of honor to attribute to the rising number of “persons” who claim to have some form of *** POST *** traumatic stress disorder PRIOR to any kind of stressor actually occurring. Otherwise, I could claim the same for watching “Tales From the Crypt” as a child. Or, better yet, “Married With Children.”
These young men and women who claim these attributes without having undergone any kind of situation gearing them toward such… well… let’s just ask ourselves… what kind of a fantastic plastic world are we living in?
Barbie and Ken are mutating.
Our heroes and idols are…
