Police fatally shoot man in Canandaigua during investigation. What we know now

Mike Murphy and Victoria E. Freile, Rochester Democrat and Chronicle
Police in Ontario County confirmed that officers fatally shot a man in Canandaigua while investigating an incident that started in East Bloomfield.

According to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, a brief pursuit led authorities from East Bloomfield into Canandaigua, where police shot and killed Brandon M. Zurkan, 31, of Warren, Pennsylvania following an encounter between Zurkan and police.

At 11:20 p.m. Tuesday, 911 was alerted by a citizen who heard a “firecracker or gunshot” from a sedan he was following on state Route 5 in East Bloomfield. A deputy in a marked patrol car intercepted the sedan on Route 5 in the town of Canandaigua, saw the car travel over the center line twice and activated emergency lights and sirens to try to stop the car, Ontario County Sheriff David Cirencione said Wednesday at a news conference.

Zurkan, he said, continued driving east into the city, drove erratically, including on lawns and through at least one red traffic light, and fired multiple shots from the car.

Sheriff’s office: Man fatally hit by car while running from deputies during traffic stop

Sarah Kyle, Fort Collins Coloradoan
The Larimer County Coroner’s Office has identified the man killed as 28-year-old Brent Thompson of Loveland. His death was ruled an accident by blunt force injuries.

Original: A multiagency team is investigating the death of a man who was struck by a vehicle during an interaction with Larimer County Sheriff’s Office deputies.

The sheriff’s office says deputies stopped a 2012 Ford Fusion that had expired registration at 9:15 p.m. Saturday. The car was going north on Interstate 25 and got off at the Mountain Vista exit in north Fort Collins for the stop.

The sheriff’s office says the man ran toward the interstate after deputies determined the driver gave them a fake name and they asked him to get out of the car.

Deputies deployed a Taser, and the man was hit by a passing car, according to the news release.

Left unsaid was if the man was actually hit by the taser, but I suppose the point is rather moot. Thanks again, Gun Bunny.

Teh stoopid is doubly strong today. A DDD was used as to which thread Editor it would go to. And I still don’t know where Canandaigua is but I do know this:

(a) We need a Georgie Patton today…desperately!

(b) “…Browning… considered the world’s foremost firearms inventor.”

Couldn’t have said it better myself.

Canandaigua is SE of Rochester, NY in beautiful upstate NY. That area is wonderland for motorcycle touring in summer and fall. Watkins Glenn is not far from there.

Wine country.
