Wednesday musing

Sorry, no news item in this one. I am privileged to talk to a highly intelligent school principal frequently and often get her insights into kids currently in school. Our conversation this week was interesting.

“Kids today have no – and I mean no – conflict resolution skills. No one has taught them that everything doesn’t always break in their direction, or that sometimes they are NOT the winners, but just finish in the pack. They absolutely cannot handle rejection of any kind – you would think they would learn after a while that not every person can be their best friend, or that if someone throws a party and they are not invited, it doesn’t mean they are worthless and it’s a gigantic personal crisis. Maybe the kid throwing the party can only have so many guests? and on their personal list, you may rank X+1 of X invitees. Doesn’t mean they hate you, just that X kids are a little higher on their personal list.

“They are under so much social media pressure to have thousands of likes, and fan appreciation –  and if they don’t, the bullying dogpiling of not just their friends but total strangers makes them feel useless. Kids have enough problems at this age just trying to figure out how to fit in – not having been taught enough of how to handle the times when they don’t fit in leaves them depressed and kind of crazy.

“I think a lot of it is due to their parenting…their parents never teach them that sometimes they lose, or that not everyone is going to like them – and that’s OK.  Helicoptering and trying to prevent kids from EVER having a conflict, that the world has no “safe spaces”, and never helping them grow to be adults who can accept differences between people – that’s on the parents. And even the parents don’t know these things.  One mother I have complained that the school had done nothing to stop her kid from being bullied all year – when she complained the second to last day of school! How are we supposed to nip things in the bud if no one tells us until it is ‘way to late to react? And that same parent still complains that the school should have “done something” about a problem they did not know existed, while the parent who DID know there was a problem did nothing.”

Makes you see why these kids shoot each other at the drop of the hat… they have only two switch positions for conflicts, NONE and NUCLEAR.

That is okay – sometimes a stellar ass whipping is as good an educational lesson as anything else. Most animals learn from pain, unless they are liberals of course.

MIRanger

Yes, but most of these parents believe that a spanking is going to ruin a kid and is child abuse…let alone an ass whooping.

Step one: private school or home school.

This doesn’t sound like a teaching problem. Sounds like a parenting problem.

My generation wasn’t exactly rebels, but if you didn’t like me you could wash my ball sack. Nowadays the kids want to go shoot up a school if Brandon makes fun of them and the girls think you should bathe and brush your teeth if you are going to ask them out.

Graybeard

Fully agree.

Getting to school was indeed difficult under those conditions
but the ride home was a blast…

Getting to school and attending school was always easy for me–until I went to the Benning School for Wayward Boys. That last eight weeks of the five months there was a real bitch.

2- Everyone doesn’t get to start.
3- Everyone doesn’t always get to play.
4- Everyone doesn’t get a trophy just for showing up.*

How we get left/libtard idjiots (and other maniacs) today… everything must go their way or they have Moby Dick-like grievances and no responsibility for their actions.

True for 100% of the inmates I’ve seen.

MIRanger

I remember having a much bigger backpack full of books, and no pick axe or ropes!!!!
Oh…and school was not at the top…it was three peeks over!

I think that part of the reason some kids have a feeling that the world owes them everything is from the school itself. It’s called social promotion. They learn that they get the same benefits as the kid who works hard so why bother to do the work? There is no penalty for doing nothing the same as there is no benefit for busting your ass compared to the slug in class. They both get promoted.

School is the primary out of home social and work training environment. All social promotion is doing is saying to all the kids there is no fail outside of home. You all gain promotions. It should be no surprise that the kids who were not told no at home, as well as not being told no in school feel that the rest of their lives will work the same way.

Nope not a total outsider, I have a MA in Education.

Commissioner Wretched

You are most certainly correct, Old Tanker. I concur with your assessment 100%. And I am a retired teacher with a doctorate in education. I was asked if I’d ever go back to the classroom of today … my response: “They don’t print that much money.”

Hey Snowflake…Life’s a bitch…then you die. Nobody gets out alive so get over yourself.

Put kids on crew served weapons training. Teaches them Team Work.

I always felt for the Ranger that had to jump, then hump the baseplate, but, without them the team couldn’t function.

One of my all-time favorite South Park monologues from the episode Safe Space. Spoken by the appropriately named character “Reality” at a celebrity fundraiser. Modified for brevity…

“Fuck you, fuck you, fuck you, fuck you, fuck you!”

[grabs the mic from Gigi Hadid]

“Give me that, you stupid bitch!”

“What’s the matter with you people?! You’re saaad that people are meeean? Well I’m sorry, the world isn’t one big liberal arts college campus! We eat too much; we take our spoiled lives for granted, feel a little bad about it sometimes! No, you wanna put up all your shit on the Internet and have every single person say “Hooray for you!” Fuck you. You’re all pricks.“

It was on the news that stanford or stamford U wants the word American banned along with a shit load of other words that we use.

Devtun

Like ‘Master’ and ‘Chief’. We gonna ban ranks of Chief Warrant Officer, Chief Master Sergeant, Master Chief Petty Officer, Master Gunnery Sergeant, Chief Petty Officer, Master Sergeant, etc.? Can’t use Chief of Staff, Chief of Naval Operations, Joint Chiefs of Staff, etc. Master caution light? Nope. That’s just the tip of the old iceberg.

rgr769

But, but “chief” is a misappropriation of some Native American culture. Oh, wait I just used another of those harmful words that should be banished from the Progs’ Newspeak Dictionary–“American.” Also, one shouldn’t use “brave” unless you are referring to an Injun.

RGR 4-78

This is all just so much mental masturbation.
