Dingy Harry stokes nirther passions

| August 3, 2009

Dingy Harry Reid apparently sees a way to lower Republican approval ratings – he brought up the birther controversy on the Senate floor for no good reason today according to The Hill;

“Let’s be clear, it’s a phony issue and does not deserve even a minute of our attention on the floor of the United States Senate,” Reid said. “It’s absurd, irresponsible, baseless, and the false claims of long ago have been refuted … The American people should know that rather than helping them get ahead, some of my colleagues would rather spew ludicrous conspiracy theories.”

Reid accused Republican lobbyists of orchestrating an attempt to discredit Obama by sending out fake letters purporting to be from minority groups. He did not name the groups specifically but called the acts “sick, dishonest and really undemocratic.”

It’s a phony issue and not worth a minute of our time…well, unless Harry brings it up. By the way, this is the only time the issue has been discussed on the Senate floor – so what the hell is Harry talking about? This is what Republicans sensibly said in the Senate;

“I thought that was all put to rest during the campaign,” said GOP Whip Jon Kyl of Arizona.

“I keep hearing it coming up, but nothing’s going to happen and it’s not going to accomplish anything,” said Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.). “He’s elected and he’s there. And I’m not part of those people bringing it up.”

Reid is pinging off of the Daily Kos poll that claims 58% of Republic answered either “don’t know” or “no” when asked “Do you believe that Barack Obama was born in the United States of America or not?” (30% said “don’t know”).

Apparently, Kos told Reid that the nirther poll has the legs to carry Democrats through the 2010 election and Reid is running with it. If anyone brought it out of the blogosphere, it’s Reid.

I hope he brings it up every day, because calling it a phony issue on the floor of the Senate makes him look crazier than…well, nirthers.

If does not deserve even a minute of our attention on the floor of the United States Senate, then why are “we” even bringing it up?

Because this is typical SocLib tactics.

Take something an enemy has said that might be the truth (even just a little bit), & make it your own issue. Then give it a little twist (of ridicule?), and beat the enemy over the head with his own words that he won’t even recognize as what he said in the first place.

Over at the American Thinker there is a great article discussing that it is the left’s impending doom and implosion that causes them to make the Birther thing an issue. It is entirely plausible. They need the distraction so they can ram through things that make the pied piper/COWboy look like he didn’t totally fuck up.

Don’t they know that that bigass walrus ‘eated it’? There IS no birth certificate.
