From time to time I have to respond to an inquiry about “who we are”. Usually, it is some smarmy and unctuous malcontent pretending to give a rats ass about what we do here. I generally just ignore them.
On rare occasion I feel compelled to respond if it is coming from someone that has commented and posted with us over the years.
We are not a community that represents a monolith of opinion on any issue. Many of the things posted here tend to be right of center politically. The chuckle that I get when I am accused of hosting some ultra right wing propaganda blog is heartfelt.
As many know, I am Atheist. I don’t see it as a huge deal, I just believe in one less God than most do. The thing that bothers me about not believing in Heaven or Hell is that Jane Fonda will not actually be rotting in the latter at some future point. Those of you who do “Believe” get to have that warm fuzzy feeling for me.
I own an Electric Vehicle, we are on our second one now. The Former Soviet and I enjoy it. Biden did not make me buy it and I doubt we will ever purchase a new vehicle that is not electric in the future.
I voted for Trump in the last election and against Hillary in the one previous to that.
I do not support the Oath Keepers, I have a great disdain for anything related to that organization. I do not support many things.
I do not speak for anyone else individually who posts here or comments here. Nobody does. They are all grown ass people with their own opinions, likes and dislikes.
I can however make a few statements about what we are not.
We are not a para-military organization looking to organize local militia groups into any kind of resistance to anything. We do not tolerate threats to the health and safety of anyone.
I realize that in the current state of society it seems strange that we do not demand every one agree with us on every issue or else we will ban them.
We are a cacophony of voices forming a chorus that screeches a crescendo in the key of “off”. Most of us have served our country to protect the rights of those who shout at the top of their lungs the very things we have spent a lifetime in opposition to. I read things here on a daily basis that I do not agree with. I am proud of the members of our community.
I am proud to be one small voice in our gallant Gallimaufry. I feel badly for those who lack the intestinal fortitude to defend the right of others to have a divergent opinion.
As my friend Edmond Dantes prosed to the unctuous and smarmy, “For your evils there are but two remedies – time and silence”.

As a Christian I believe that if Fonda were ever to ask God for forgiveness for her sins she would certainly go to Heaven. However as she is a confirmed Gnostic that seems unlikely..
I certainly do a fair she of disagreement with the majority view here. I’ve made it clear I’ve never been a fan of the orange man but in the last election he was the lessor of two evils. Like everyone he has some strengths, and those are geared more towards helping Americans rather being used by a puppet master wedded to some ideology.
I think the average poster here is around 104 years old and while some may have really been something back in their day (decade, century?) that day has long passed and there is to much water under the bridge to reform Roger’s Rangers even with some of the founding members on board.
Last I checked it was a free country. But it is fading fast. The Ministry of Truth, The Censorship Board, the open, unapologetic abuses of power at the Dept of Justice make me weep.
While I do live in this in country, fought on its behalf and still serve in small ways even today, it isn’t mine to do with as I please. Unfortunately there are some who are filled with enough hubris to think they should, no matter who it hurts. They will use any justification to commit illegal, immoral and unethical acts, exploiting thier offices entrusted to them to do so. They end up hurting those they claim to be trying to help.
There have always been people like that through history and it never tends to end well for anyone. The people on the bottom always suffer the outsized pain.. it is for those I tilt against the wrongs in the world. To support ROL, kind treatment of everyone possible and respect the rights and freedoms of all.

Sounds like post Vietnam, when I was in.
Navy, Army, and Air Force were allowing longer hair, and longer sideburns. Navy was allowing beards. Standards for enlistment were low. Morale was in the gutter. Ships in the navy were becoming dangerous for sailors to navigate because of gang activity in some sections. I was stationed at Camp Pendleton where a group of KKK members, and Black Panthers had raised some BS just a few weeks before I arrived, and a Marine who had nothing to do with it got stabbed. This was ON BASE at Area 22.
And a lot of this had to do with the Civil Rights movement, and affirmative action, along with the need to promote minority members in the interest of equity over quality, and trying to fit the military to the “Mod Age” of the time, rather than keeping with the mission of blowing shit up and killing people.
Sound familiar?
We had some black panthers at Camp Geiger in 1979 when I got there. A bunch of black Staff NCO’s found out about one of their meetings and broke it (and them) up with baseball bats. They said they had worked too damned hard being outstanding Marines to have racist slackers fucking things up for them.

One problem with the finger pointers of today is they believe if you’re in for a penny, you’re in for a pound. If you support anything right of center you’re targeted. There can be no moderates, only extremists.

The longer I dodder on in retirement, the clearer my vision becomes. I spent the majority of my adult in service to either the country or my current county of residence. I was raised that service above self is one of the pillars of what ‘defines a man’. I’ve held that belief for years, but I begrudge no one who thinks different than me.
However, with the working from home for the better part of 2 years and seeing how stupid society has gotten so quickly (if you don’t agree with X, you’re racist, transphobic, oppressive, etc….), I don’t see myself ever venturing outside my household again unless I absolutely have to.
So….
If we put this in our yard for Halloween, are we Rude, Crude and Socially Unacceptable?
