Suspect killed in deputy-involved shooting following ‘altercation’ near Wayland
State police say a deputy shot and killed a driver after a “physical altercation” during a traffic stop in northern Allegan County on Thursday.
The incident happened shortly after 10 p.m. on 26th Street near 136th Avenue in Salem Township, northwest of Wayland.
Michigan State Police said the deputy pulled over the vehicle, then there was a physical altercation between the deputy and the driver. The deputy fired his weapon at least once, killing the driver.
Lt. DuWayne Robinson with MSP told WOOD TV-8 investigators have not found evidence that the driver had a weapon. He also noted that there is no body camera or dashcam video of the incident.
Allegan County Sheriff Frank Baker said his department received funding to purchase cameras and started to install them, but the deputy’s vehicle was not equipped with the technology.

Thanks again, Gun Bunny.
Americans who value freedom had better be more concerned about the gun control crowd than the criminals. The criminals want your money. The Neo-Totalitarians want your freedom. — Charlie Reese

Did the deceased driver have any family or relatives? If so, I foresee a hefty lawsuit against the Salem Twsp PD and the trigger happy deputy.
No weapon? No bodycam? No dashcam? “He said/she said”? Except that the driver is deceased.
Assaulting a LEO and attempting to gain control of their weapon is a deadly force situation. As usual there is insufficient info to determine what the actual situation was in the media.
You prolly right, Tox, on the lawers coming forth for the family. It’s what they do. But FIRST, they’ll be some rioting, burning, looting, and general mayhem for…reasons. Declaring the DRT a Saint, installing Statuary, street names, and artwork will follow. Old Tanker is correct, too, on both of his statements. With the LEO being treated for “injuries”, Imma gonna say that he was in fear for his life/losing his weapon and didn’t have much choice.
Store owner may get sued, too, for daring to stand up to an armed wanna be robber. Gun in hand beats gun in belt, every.damn.time!
If I had a spare $2K not sure if I’d pop on that DISSENT. Maybe if it came with a sling and trench coat for CCW?
Criminals would die trying to take my $. Same as the ones that try to take my freedom.
Stay away from ALL traffic stops so you can go home and not worry about peeps protesting in front of your house. Get with the Fergison effect and don’t do traffic stops, slow down on domestics and gun runs and get their after the crime was over. Spend your time on expired parking meters.
