Rhode Island Introduces Bill for Tougher Stolen Valor Law

| April 7, 2022

Sarah Cavanaugh

No doubt influenced by the recent fiasco with Sarah Cavanaugh scamming people by claiming she was a combat-wounded Marine, Rhode Island has introduced a bill to toughen up their Stolen Valor violations.

RI lawmaker pushes to criminalize ‘stolen valor’

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Nearly one month after a woman was arrested for profiting off a fake Bronze Star and Purple Heart she claimed to have earned while serving in the military, a Rhode Island lawmaker is hoping to criminalize the act of “stolen valor.”

Sarah Cavanaugh, 31, is accused of bilking nonprofit organizations out of thousands of dollars meant for war heroes. She is facing numerous federal charges including wire fraud, faking military awards and service and aggravated identity theft.

Then…

Rep. Samuel Azzinaro, chairman of the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee, tells 12 News he was inspired by Cavanaugh’s case to introduce legislation that would make it illegal for someone to lie about serving in the military.

“I can’t believe someone would do that,” Azzinaro said. “Why would you even do that? That’s the issue I have with it.”

Azzinaro said he doesn’t believe there’s a law currently on the books in Rhode Island that addresses situations like Cavanaugh’s.

“It mars up the people that are in the military and have gone through battle and wars,” he said. “It’s something that should just not ever happen.”

The legislation, which would make “stolen valor” a misdemeanor crime in Rhode Island, was held for further study during Tuesday night’s House Judiciary Committee.

While there’s no timeline as to how this proposal will move forward, Azzinaro believes it will gain traction this session, especially as the Cavanaugh case moves forward.

Cavanaugh has been placed on leave from her job at the Providence VA pending the outcome of the investigation, and she has also resigned from her role as the commander of VFW Post 152.

Well, add another state to the list to make the laws stricter.  Hopefully, it will pass in Rhode Island.  Maybe with enough states passing these laws, it could be a signal to introduce and pass something on a federal level – or stiffen up the current Stolen Valor Act.

“I can’t believe someone would do that,”

Hard to imagine a politician that is shocked people lie. Azzinaro is either the most Gullible Phuk in politics or just Stewpit.

I think it’s a page out of the Politician’s Communication Playbook. Sort of like when they are presented with resigning or getting fired, they always say they “want to spend more time with their family.”

Yeah, I agree, I kinda saw something like this in my minds eye…

“Both” is a viable option.

A strange thing for a veteran Staff Sergeant to say.

“The legislation, which would make “stolen valor” a misdemeanor crime in Rhode Island,”

In other words it will be like a really bad speeding ticket.

Speaking of Stolen Valor…

Whatever happened to these two guys?

They oozed off into to the sewerset…..or….they are employed by All-Points Logistics. Phildo cannot let that type of talent ooze away….

What a couple of losers.

Those Two: Perfect for APL…

😆🤣

Always thought Forging Frank would hold the SV Reign on TAH until these two Ya-Hoos showed up…

What are the chances that TAH had a Two-Fer running for the same office for a LEO position?

Classic Gold. One forging his DD214…the other alternating his DD214…

Both claiming RANGER status as well as Combat Status…

Takes all kinds…😉

Those two Goofups are in Forever Land on the Internet because of this article (which features some TAH Members..)

“How To Spot A Military Imposter”

They both wanted their 15 minutes of fame…Well, be careful what you wish for because sometimes it comes back to haunt you…

🤣😂

Great article Ninja. Before I got on the TAH site, I came across Guys with the leather motorcycle vests and all sorts of Mil emblems, on the vests and when I asked what their MOS /rank/rate, I was given answers that I thought were odd. I bump into Vets almost every day in Publix and are the real deal even ones that wear caps that they are not supossed to be wearing and didn’t know that it wasn’t kosher if not on their DD-214’s.

Jeff: Thank You…🙂

Everyone on TAH to include you did an outstanding job on researching and outting both Foley and Jowers on their deceptions and lies…

Outta of the two, IMHO, Jowers was the worse. He got caught with his story about being in combat, being a RANGER. his Discharge status…and then LIED to cover up those lies when confronted about his AWOL situation by using his family members (lying about his sister committing suicide, his father being ill)..That’s pretty bad.

Then on top of that, he lied to the great State of Texas about his Discharge status when applying to be a LEO..

The other Phony that I forgot to mention is Les Brown…the one who went to his grave with his lies. Again, all in TAH to include you did a fantastic job with outting not only him out, but also the Elko, Nevada POW/MIA Awareness Group, i.e. the Chili Feed/Vest Wearing Wannabees who worshipped King Les AFTER his demise.

Shout Out to MarineDad61 who did a super job with those Yahoos..

Thank you Jeff for asking questions to those folks.

Bet they were squirming when you confronted them reference their vests as well as their Military jobs.

You did the right thing. Please continue!

Yes, some are the real deal. Don’t know if they are ignorant or just have embellishing personalities.

Ran into an O4 in the mid 2000s who was wearing the 18th Airborne Corps Patch as his Combat Patch. He told me he served 6 months in the Bosnia/Kosovo AOR.

Knew instantly he was wearing an Unauthorized SSI. Instead of confronting/ embarassing him in front of his peers/subordinates, had a discussion with his Boss, a Boots On The Ground Vietnam Veteran who retired as an Army O6 and was a DA GS 14 about the unauthorized SSI.

Was surprised when the O6 thought all Soldiers deployed to Bosnia/Kosovo rated the SSI. Had to show the him the Regulation. HE was embarrassed, but chose not to correct the O4.

Leadership at its best. (sarc). The O4 did not make O5.

MarineDad61

ninja,
Thx. 🙂

Leather vests covered in POSer bling.

— SIGH —

Why must it always be leather vests covered in POSer bling.

How/why did all of this POSer leather vest bullshit ever get started in the first place?

Interesting article in the New Yorker, but I was disappointed that TAH and the Schantags didn’t get a mention.

rgr769:

* Mary and Chuck ARE mentioned in the article.

* TAH IS mentioned in the article.. identified as “Military Phonies”…TAH/Military Phonies behind the scene gurus ARE mentioned in the article.

* Three or more individuals who go by unique TAH handle names are identified in the article. Their interviews are within the article. To protect their PI, don’t want to give their real names with their TAH names. Additionally, two or more TAH/Military Phonies were interviewed as well.

ninja,
Does everyone remember,
that the author of this New Yorker article is RELATED to Janet.

Janet who?
THIS Janet,, the Janet that played phony accomplice, phony enabler, and book tour host,
to Martin Blank / LeBlanc.
The Janet that wrote the book!
Ghost Warrior.

The Janet who tried to fend off the retired Green Berets (GGB) that nailed Martin at a book tour event,
all saved on video.

Author Rachel told me this, during our phone call, but didn’t want this tidbit getting out when the story went to press,
even though “Aunt Janet” was the motivator for Rachel to tackle the topic of Stolen Valor.

This Janet…..

Classic Janet,
AFTER the GGB book tour encounter, on the Ghost Warrior Book of the Fake.

Phony denier & phony enabler.
Because, of course,
everything that Martin did, and said,
it’s all TRUE. (lolol)

Days after the TAH article,
this FakeBook post,
and the whole page, went POOF.

I showed this to author Rachel.

“…stiffen up the current Stolen Valor Act.” Spot on! Make it a felony for starters.

Politician trying to make points.

A Proud Infidel®™

They can pass all the Laws they want to, but will they be enforced? Without enforcement, Laws are just words on paper.

Y’know, if the State of Connecticut passed a Law like that they could start off busting their US Senator under it!
