City prosecutor clears 2 HPD officers in fatal shooting of machete-wielding man

Peter Boylan, The Honolulu Star-Advertiser
Two Honolulu police officers under investigation for the shooting death of a machete-wielding man have been cleared of wrongdoing.

Honolulu Prosecuting Attorney Steve Alm said during a news conference this morning that the use of deadly force resulting in the death of Elia S. Laeli, 41, was justified, and no charges will be filed against the two officers.

According to Honolulu Police Department reports, the officers responded to an assault call at about 2 :30 a.m. Aug. 11 in the 1300 block of North School Street. At the scene, officers were confronted by Laeli, who was armed with a machete and had reportedly severed a man’s pinkie finger with the large blade.

Philadelphia customer turns ‘tables’ on suspected armed robber, shoots him with his own gun
The suspect was pronounced dead after police found him unresponsive with gunshot wounds to the groin and thigh

By Emma Colton
A suspected robber in Philadelphia was shot dead when a customer in a smoke shop managed to get ahold of the suspect’s gun and shoot him, according to reports.

“At this point, we believe there was a robbery inside the smoke shop. Possibly the tables were turned on the robber and that’s when the robber got shot and he was able to get in this Toyota in the passenger seat who was driven two-and-a-half blocks,” Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said, according to Fox 29.

The suspect allegedly went into the smoke shop in Philadelphia’s Olney neighborhood early Tuesday morning armed with a gun while a pair of men were getting cash out of an ATM inside the shop.

One of the men at the ATM, a 45-year-old, “pulled a Bruce Lee move” on the suspect and managed to get his gun and shoot the suspect, Fox 29 reported. During the incident, the 45-year-old accidentally shot his 36-year-old friend in the shoulder, the outlet reported.

Bruce Lee was a better shot. Thanks again, Gun Bunny.

Another example of when the redistribution of wealth goes wrong. Unfortunately for the shop owner, the front of his establishment will be blocked with Mylar balloons, stuffed Teddy Bears, candles and cans of 40 ounce malt liquor in tribute to the recently deceased.

Be interesting to read some stats on the 5.7×28 round vs other rounds.

I’ve seen this before not in person but on the Internet and I’ve really been curious about keltec because it supposed to be the cheap piece of shit weapons of choice of some consumer group or else they wouldn’t continue to exist.
I don’t know maybe it’s just people being snooty and keltec is perfectly fine. The other thing is the 5.7 x 28 rounds. For some reason the other day my son and I were looking at those I think it was a revolver I don’t remember what it was but it was a pistol with those I think it was an FN of course, but some dude at the range the other day was popping off BamBam BamBam BamBam BamBam, and my son started yelling dollar dollar dollar dollar dollar dollar dollar dollar and in this case with the 5.7 x 28 rounds he’s almost correct last time I checked last week they were like $.80 apiece 😭.
Oh that reminds me my Friday ammo seek price chart I’ll have to do that when I get to work a little while talk to you guys later

My 3 Keltecs have been good-to-go, others’ mileage may vary.

Ain’t nothing wrong with 5.7FN. Given its nature I’d call it a jack of all trades but that is dependent on the tool its launched from and the reason it’s chosen.

To condense that, dollar for dollar there are better options, i.e. a pistol and rifle, yet if someone can only have one weapon and needs it to do dual-duty, pony up that dough!

Ask the guys at Ft. Hood, Maj. Hassan used an FN 5.7 on his shooting spree there.
Very light bullet and high velocity – not good for penetration but makes a heck of a wound cavity, so for soft targets it does damage disproportionate to its size. 9mm class energy, but an ugly wound.

It will, however, punch through soft body armor… hence the acronym “cop killer” bullet/

Welp, that’s one (1) less that Dano didn’t have to book. BZ DA.

So…not everybody could do the Kung Foo Fighting? Nothing like being a perforated perp…by your own weapon…after getting your azz whooped.

While ya got the hood up, check all the fluids, belts, and hoses.

Ol’ Sam was spot on so many times with his musings. Too bad many of his characters spoke in the style and language of the period. Oh, and BTW, you do know that for awhile he was a (gasp/clutches pearls/THE HORROR) Confederate.

Believe it or not, N. School Street in Kalihi-Palama ain’t a great neighborhood. Had a friend of Filipino persuasion there.

Her and her roommate were very nice ladies, and that’s all I gotta say about that,
